West Ham (A) Post Match Thread

Absolute shite and the worrying thing is we all knew it was coming when the team sheet came out. Nothing is changing and the fact Torres didn't get any time on the pitch is an utter joke. No passion or pace until foden came on and did his best to drag the team through. Dont get me started on mahrez and sterling.
Think pep is picking teams, to get him sacked, and his substitutions are a joke.

Sorry but that was dogshit. Boring and predictable. So many things already written on here that I agree with. Maybe the lack of crowds does have an effect? I don't know. We spend far too long playing at a pedestrian pace and f'ing around with the ball between the defence and midfield. Can't wait to see Gundo and Mahrez leave.

Don't care what it costs just get Haaland!

At least Foden was exciting and grabbed a great goal. That and Diaz looking solid was the only positives for me.

I'm just a bit lost with it all at the minute. I can't understand Peps thinking. Yes hes a genius and I can't even master champ manager but its baffling.
What does mahrez bring that braaf or torres doesn't.
What does gundogan bring that tommy doyle or foden doesn't.
What does garcia bring that stones, tosin or thb bring.
What does rodri bring that stopped us paying fuck all for Douglas Luiz to come back or try tommy doyle.
Then you bring zinchenko into the conversation. What does he bring to the squad. He isn't good enough for AM or LB, personally I thought he might be OK at CDM.
We have great youth players in doyle, thb, palmer, mcatee and braaf yet we are flogging the likes of sterling, walker, rodri, etc. Delaps been on the bench yet we play bernado, sterling, mahrez as a false 9. Physically hes ready, he has a mean streak and he can score.
Like I said I'm not Pep but mahrez and gundogan for me don't bring anything to the game. Zinchenko doesn't add to the squad. We have great young players who can see out games and rest 1st team players trying to avoid injuries/fatigue. Fucked if I know!!! And usually I get called a "happy clapper".
I’d much rather watch young lads give 100% cutting their teeth and making some mistakes than players who should be at the top of their game looking like they can’t be arsed or not putting every ounce of effort they have in.

Mahrez has bags and bags of ability, but he’s ineffective in our team more often than not because we have to play through brick walls. He’s what you want in a counter attacking team for me, running onto balls and turning defenders who are on the back foot. He’s just not the type of player we need.

Good post, mate!

There are now too many players we have to "carry" who are starters.

Rodri
Gundogan
Mahrez

You can get away with 1 such player, possibly 2, but 3 is a fucking liberty.

All 3 are nowhere near good enough.

All 3 are wet as fuck.

All 3 lack the killer instinct.

Positives -

Dias is settling well and is clearly a very good CB. He got his arse given on their goal but he wont make that mistake again as he's a quick learner. Other than that he was really good today.

Cancelo - best I've seen him play for us. Was energetic and whipped in some killer balls. Perhaps he needed time to settle and there is actually a player in there.

Foden - fabulous player and a definite changer of games.

Bizarrely we seem much more solid than ever but are struggling with the part we're usually great at - creating and scoring.

Weird.
Good post!

You're letting that missed chance cloud your judgement of Sterling IMO tolm. He's not a striker, he's not a natural goalscorer but he scored 30 last season and he's on track to do it again this year.

Accusing him of stealing a living when he runs his heart out every 3 days is unfair.
Totally agree Sterling dose work his bollocks off Mahrez on the other hand is terrible been saying it for two seasons he gives us one good game in six at the most

I couldn’t believe the team selection before the game, understand the manager wanting to keep the team the same IF they had played brilliantly the previous game but we didn’t & also with the very clear fatigue the players are suffering from left me baffled. Sterling looks exhausted, Sergio needs to be integrated gradually. Positives I thought another good commanding performance from Dias & Foden was excellent, crazy why he didn’t start. Mahrez looks like he doesn’t want to beat a man & is getting dispossessed far too easily. Finally Cancelo, I’m not having him at all, I think he’s thick as shit, he makes the same errors consistently, he’s weak in the 1vs1 duels & is poor defensively, need Laporte Ake back ASAP & build a solid back 4. Would of liked to of seen Torres brought on for Mahrez or sterling as his freshness could of made a massive difference with those 2/3 counter attacks we wasted late on.
Good post

The attention Raheem gets from opponents doubling up on him is one of several things that suggest he is world class. But today he did that run, stop, turn into the face of the defender thing when we want him running in straight lines towards the goal. Not a good day for him today in terms of end result but plenty of effort and tracking back.

World class is an overused word nowadays when it comes to footballers. The 1-1’s Sterling has against these and Leeds I would expect players like Messi and Ronaldo to score almost every time. We have one world class player for me- KDB. In defence of Sterling though I would say there are prob less than 10 players who fall into that category and he is still a great player who is suffering at the moment by being overplayed and with the weight of our expectations on his shoulders due to injuries to other players. He has a tough job currently.
