West Ham (A) Post Match Thread

we need to move at pace, we are so fucking slow at the moment always passing back and sidewards, sterling gets the ball and like today standstill and waits till some1 comes to him, he then passes back try to take 2 -3 on or loses the ball and looks like some1 has mugged him, we need to move a hell of lot faster then we are doing

I wouldn’t trust this team to win 3 in a row now never mind the 14-18 in a row we done in the past. Big players have been let go and some players are getting older and the recruitment to replace them has been awful. Injuries doesn’t help but also doesn’t help when our manager loves to experiment every week instead of just settling with a starting 11
Which player was let go of?

It was pretty clear what the problem was today. We were ok(ish) from 1 - 8 but our front three, Aguero, Sterling and Mahrez had the least effect on the game of anyone out there. Very little Eddy could do with their goal, it was a remarkably clean strike for an overhead kick and, aside from 5 minutes before half time, we never looked troubled. Unfortunately we rarely looked like troubling them either. Sergio' fitness and form has to be a long term worry, Sterling looked strangely unaware of his, and others, position, particularly in the second half when Foden and De Bruyne came on. Mahrez? Well let's just say he didn't have the best of days. Fingers crossed for a better showing on Tuesday.

Good post. Attack is now the issue the defence looks better.

Spot on

Frustrating at the moment. Mahrez starts every week but can’t remember last time he played well. The gundo Rodri pairing always weakens us too. Still we got a point

90 per cent of teams that had the opportunities we had today would have scored or brought a difficult save from the GK. How many times did Raheem have a clear run on goal, only to stop, do a 90-degree turn right into the nearest defender ? But at least he tends to score even when not playing well overall. How Mahrez ran the ball out of play over the line on the right beggars belief. I don't recall him going past a player today - just a succession woeful passes and shots. What I'm trying to say is, poor though we were generally, we had opportunities that a top team would have buried.

Looked a definite handball by the way - hence BT didn't replay it until after the game.
BBC said it was handball, but the VAR considered it ‘accidental’, so the goal was allowed to stand. WTF? I thought they removed ‘intent’ from the argument?

I agree with you very much. Our application in the opposition box is what let us down today, again! Raheem and Riyad are not having a good start to the season. Merlin is gone and it was him passing those return ball beauties into the box for somebody to score. Today, there were two excellent chances, Mahrez on the right when he scuffed it straight to their goalkeeper. And even the better one, after a really good Gundo's overhead pass to Cancelo he just had to ping it to Raheem in the box, and still he didn't even connect with the ball.
Many here are talking about us being slow, how on earth you play quick against the team defending with 10 players. Just to make mistake and be sucked into a counterattack. Pep created this problem - Bielsa said that himself - and he needs to find the answer to that.
