West Ham (H) Post Match Thread

I don’t expect 6-0, I expect it to be tidier and for us to finish games.

We play like that until the end of May and it’s Liverpool’s.

If we finish like that then I agree but our general play was fine. With the number of good chances we created that game could easily have been a 4 or 5 nil rout.

I agree, I really don’t want Liverpool winning.

It was a fairly Woody pen, but came seconds after what looked like a pretty nailed on pen.
I think the main differences between our soft pen and one Liverpool may get, A, it’s rare. B, Bernardo wasn’t looking for it.
Regards B, Bernardo charged at 3/4 players and was hoping to get through it have his legs taken.

He was actually knocked several times, but the tv hasn't got the angle to show it. The contact they do show, was enough to knock his leg sideways, when seen from behind, in real time.

We should have scored goals all game, whoever was on, so that is irrelevant.

But Sterling was vastly different in attitude & intent, than the players in the first half & it was startlingly different, when him & Bernardo came on. Had Sterling been in the same positions earlier, he would have had scoring opportunities, where others were hanging back, not affecting the play, or the West Ham defence..

West Ham survived, very luckily, throughout. But City were a different team, with those two on he pitch.

I personally thought Bernardo made the biggest difference to be honest and not just due to the penalty.

Still cannot believe that game ended only 1-0 to us. Not that I expect to win every game 5-0, but had that gone so, it wouldn't have been unfair on the Hammers. Hey ho, I'll take the three ponts and raised blood pressure of the last fifteen mins.

I personally thought Bernardo made the biggest difference to be honest and not just due to the penalty.

Sane would have been fine, if Bernardo & sterling had both been on, imo, but there was a big obvious difference that Sterling was doing everything quicker, & was akways available, for a tap in, far post, which meant Aguero was no longer the only player West Ham defenders have to worry about.

Fucking hell I really dont know what planet some on here are from.

Following an away Europe trip and a Cup final on Sunday that went to extra time and penalties, last night we were faced with a a match against a much improved side who are no longer relegation contenders and who have been playing well. Hardly surprising given they have an ex City manager who knows a thing or two about doing well in the Premier League, add to the mix a team that contained a couple more returning heroes and of course we have a few injuries to key players.....

It was hardly likely to be a stroll in the park was it?

As it happens we battled through and got the one thing that anyone should really be bothered about....a win and 3 points. Thats exactly what Liverpool got as expected so job done.

Hardly surprisingly all things considered it wasnt a vintage performance. I thought the back four were excellent notably the perpetually understated Otamendi, and Ederson did what he had to do superbly.

Further forward midfield were functional but against a well disciplined and impressive defensive display the forwards struggled. Sane had one of his poor nights, as did Aguero apart from a much better penalty than the one he took Sunday. Mahrez does look to be struggling to get to grips with his move here, but his time may well come.

A statement maybe about Fodens progress in the mind of the manager to put him on when he did...a cock up at that stage would have been calamitous, and Pep trusted Phil to have the cool head needed to help see us home last night.

All in all surely a satisfactory if not outstanding nights work?

Those who have been throwing words ranging from awful to shite are in my view expecting the truly impossible. To those I ask one question...Do you not think you are turning just a touch raggy, as you are replicating the same sort of nonsense that for a couple of decades was almost exclusively heard coming from the general direction of Old Shitehouse.

already made my points of the game but ??

a lot of people are in the right to vent anger and moan its what a football forum is for and if we all said the same shit it would be boring, but this mahrez debate is a puzzle ??, but we should hold fire and give the lad a chance and let him settle into a system that must be hard to learn when you have been playing a total different style to pep and city

look yes he looks a million miles away from that great season at leicester and they hit everybody on the break and used a long pass over the top to vardy, but the lad has got something to offer and when he has settled into a new system we will see the best of him, you can see the lad is trying to hard and the pressure of keeping his place, but last night i felt sorry for him because the team was all over the place even KDB and D.silva was well under par so taking him off he looked like the scape goat ???

Amen....

Time to adjust, adjust from what? He has been playing in this league for several years now.
It is not like he has come in to the premiership from another league.
He lacks pace another year will not improve this.
He doesn't fit our style of play or system that will not improve next season as we will not change to suit him.
Bad fit and a bad signing. imho
City and Leicester play different styles of football. Sterling took time to adjust when he moved but seems to be going from strength to strength now. This games a lot about confidence and that penalty at Anfield is defining his season at the moment. I think he's better than that and I reckon Pep does too. You've said it there yourself, at the moment he doesn't fit our style of play. A perfect example was in the first half yesterday when he got the ball in a good position and instead of looking up and seeing where his team mates were moving he instinctively put it to where you would find a striker like Vardy running into the box and no-one was there. Our play is more patient and I think he's still too direct minded. Not a problem if he can get a good shot away, but with knackered confidence he just looks foolish.

Trying to understand why we have so many shots yet few of them are on target.
Do we shoot without hope of accuracy almost in desperation or are we genuinely incapable of continuing our accurate passing game at the final stage?
Nothing new of course but still a puzzle.
‘On target’ can be a misleading stat to use as a positive.

There can be ten better chances that just go wide than five half chances that are on target.

I hope I am wrong cause I want the guy to succeed but I fully agree with you. I don't see much improvement on the horizon next season. I would be inclined to ship him out in the summer maybe to Spain or Italy and take a haircut on the fee. Problem of course, as always it seems with us, will be his wages.

Ship him out really??? Thats bollocks surely!

I agree 100%. Well maybe 90% as previously stated not sure about Mahrez.

Watching the highlights back this morning over breakfast. I have to think we put in a great shift considering the previous run of matches.
However, spunking chances away time after time is criminal. We could quite easily have had 6 or 7 if we had been clinical and ruthless.
We are consistently having to play against teams who are playing anti-football/ bus parking. It’s up to us to break them down. Difficult when their formation is 5-4-1.

Sometimes in football as in business and life you have to cut your losses. Personally I think the management will give him a second season to prove his
worth. My view is that he does not and will not fit into our manner of playing. But I hope he proves me wrong down the line its just that I am not sure he will.

I would say a bit early to go that far. Ask yourself has this guy got the kind of talent that could make the difference in a tight Champions League Semi or final and you have to think his past form says he has. I would certainly be giving it another season before any thoughts of flogging him to a European rival should happen.

Its x3 points and x1 less game in the run in to concern us.

We could have been 2 up in first 5 minutes but we didn't convert either. In fact didn't convert a single chance from open play in whole 90 minutes.

& had to put Raheem & Bernardo on to inject some pace and directness. I'm sure Pep would have wanted the game over by halftime, have Sergio

subbed and not have to had make the substitutions he did have to make & at same time not conceded such a significant swing in goal difference.

But the club & pep set out to win everything we are involved in. At times, things will not go way we planned but we take the points & just move on.

Yes as a fan, It's hard, nervously sat in the stands, when it's only x1 nil and still 15 mins to play, However, it is probably just as hard for players too.

Fernandhino & Laporte have been immense all season. Unfortunately, they are both out for a number of games. West Ham was the first & we have

a win & the three points, so take it & next up is Bournemouth. With a bit of luck, 1 or 2 of those early chances goes in this time and the games won
