Wetherspoons Real Ale festival

One of the few outstanding ales is Theakstons Old Peculiar for many decades now - and Wetherspoons have stocked it quite often now.

One of the few ales I don’t like. It’s the Marmite of beers.

Tastes like burnt cough mixture to me.

With all due respect I think you mean "Leffe". I employ a similar strategy.

Indeed, the biggest sin in Wetherspoons is going for a £1.77 pint of Ruddles as your "includes a drink" choice.

They get a lot of those stolen unfortunately, mine often arrives in a lesser glass. Lovely stuff though, but more than one and that's me needing an afternoon nap.

I would err with caution against mixing pints of Leffes with flaggons of Salopian Darwins Origin. We missed last nights star caberet back at the camp as we fell asleep. Supposed to have been one of the top turns at Cala Gran this year and beyond devo'd that we missed him.

Day two of the festival and we'll be tramming down south to the Velvet Coaster. Being a lot bigger it should have more real ale on tap than the Jolly Tar. The Jolly Tar however had a fantastic vibe and in my opinion is one of the nicest spoons around. A classier clientel in Cleethorpe and we never heard a swear word all day. Very sad to hear that Todmordens White Hart is down for Tim's second round of closures.

I had a pint of Salopian Darwin's Origin yesterday afternoon in Wetherspoons , Glossop.
It was a hoppy tasting real ale well worth the £2.44 I paid for it.
But it went flat very quickly (a lot of real ales do), so it took the shine off it to be honest.
I much prefer my pints of bitter to have a decent head on them, like the beer I used to drink back in my youth in the 1970s.
I had a 2nd pint of real ale, a pint of Wobbly Bob (6%ABV) on this occasion,and that went flat as well.
