Tbh, I think he genuinely wanted the best for this country and wasn’t an out and out liar like his most recent successor. He came across as a decent man but in spite of all that it’s hard to get away from the fact that he’s largely responsible for the utter fuck up that Brexit has become. It could have all been avoided if he had done things differently in the run up to his re-election and the referendum.
If he hadn’t assumed that Remain would win and had a credible plan ahead of the vote to deliver Brexit in case it was needed. He should have run a better campaign and had a better strategy to counter the lies of the Leave campaign and their insidious Social Media campaign. He played into Leave’s hands with doom and gloom predictions that were dismissed as Project Fear. The main thing was that he should never have gone along with a referendum in the first place. It was too big a gamble just to get back into power.Like what?

YepI don’t think he ever thought he could lose. Like most of us.
Rich boy with an enhanced sense of self worth brought about by an expensive privileged education that fitted his entry into the Tory "ruling class". Member of a dubious society at school that resulted in at best accusations of fucking a dead pigs face.
Adviser on Black Wednesday somehow appointed PM after a hug a hoodie campaign - surrounded himself with Eton educated advisers so he could be a "man of the people" and thus failed to win a majority. Even so he embarked on a period austerity that we were "all in together" which results show were not the case as the gap between rich and poor has grown. Easily outsmarted the tea boy Clegg in coalition but with his men of the people failed to understand the electoral threat UKIP represented - he agreed to an ill defined Referendum to win an election which he then won though he did win the Scots Indy Ref - however once he lost he flounced off.
Son of a millionaire stockbroker and married to a millionairess and father of 4 children 3 of who are surviving both he and wife are from wealthy and privileged backgrounds.
