It was John Carpenter that wrote the Assault on Precinct 13 theme - as well as writing and directing the movie.

I have three of Caprenter's solo albums as well as some soundtrack stuff of his.

Many of his movies have soundtracks by him. He didn't do The Thing or Starman. Not sure about his later movies.
