ive been looking at a few reviews, its a bit mixed. i thought it was pretty good. my father was a big gambler, and i think they got the scenes of him coming home and makng it all sound fine was spot on

I liked it, plus being from that part of Marple it was like a trip down memory lane!

Anyone going to Coogan's live show? I've got tickets for the Apollo, can't wait!

i am a huge fan of partridge /saxondale and early doors/ royal family - therefore i was really looking forward to it ..... i thought it was dreadful ;- corny jokes , bad acting and they nicked the last 15 minutes off "the sting" also as usual with these sort of dramas showed northerners up by making them look cretins - the guy who said he was betting on the england match (neil bell ) is a mate of my missus and is a great actor (we recently saw him in a play at the lowry) a great bloke and a city fan to boot - i actually cringed with embarresment when he was on as he is far , far better than that , no doubt it was an accurate portrayal of a gambling addict but as a credible drama it was shit .

Crap. I hate Coogan, the arrogant wanker. Partridge isn't acting, that's what he's really like.

found it a bit depressing tbh
got tickets for november - looking forward to paul calf big time- dug out video of 3 fights, and video diaries the other week. Quality
Scary how old they are tho
but the videos are still in great nick

Why make low life comments like this just because he is a local lad made good?

I really enjoyed it.

Caroline Aherne gets so much of the credit for The Royle Family, but Craig Cash is also a very talented writer.

Still think he should have done more of Early Doors, very very underrated.

Didn't watch it, I couldn't see the entertainment value in watching some cnut spunk all his money gambling while his family suffered.

As a reformed gambler i found it a little hard to watch,it brought back a few bad memories. When he was sat alone at his wits end after blowing 900.00.,the feeling i presume he was trying to portray, was one of feeling completly hollow. And he seemed to do a descent job of it.

the funniest bit was the old dear explaining to the bin man how she'd separated her plastics from her papers and her glass and as soon as she'd walked off he just lobbed everything in the big crusher

coogan is hardly a "hard core " rag - he does choose united over city but paul calf (as are most of his characters) is very funny , the prog on tuesday was dire however

i'm afraid he is. at a book signing in manchester some years ago when city were really in the shit a city/coogan fan, believing coogan also supported city because of his paul calf character, asked him if he was downhearted about city's plight. he answered smugly 'paul calf might be but i don't give a toss because i support united'. looked at dispassionately paul calf may be a funny character but trust me he's using him to take the piss out of city fans big time.

PAUL CALF is a sad deluded pathetic loser , no doubt the fact he supports city is an enhancement of this , but coogan has no major agenda to "get at" city fans - i thought the fact we could laugh at ourselves was what seperated us from others ?
