What do you want to see from our captain?

I think Dunnies been good for the club and conversely the club has been good to him but I'm not really seeing what I expect to see from a team captain out on the pitch. I can understand why he was made captain, longest serving player, player of the season for the last few seasons etc but frankly there wasn't a lot of competition for the post was there?

I expect to see the captain giving out orders, bollocking players who are slacking, picking up on defensive errors and organising the team, especially defence and midfield. I expect to see some passion, when we concede a goal I want to see him egging people on, getting them up for the fight to get back at the other team. The captain should be driving the team on and inspiring them to more effort.

I don't see this from Dunnie, I think he's a good CB and worth his position (apart from the odd howlers but that can happen to any player) and he seems a genuinely nice guy but is he "too nice" and laidback to be captain?

He needs to study John Terry and hopefully learn a thing or two about leadership.

Absolutely spot on .

John Terry does make the odd mistake , but in general he organises his back line to great effect ...... is vocal when the need calls for it ..... and distributes well normally when he has the ball ....... he also has that burning will to win ...... watch the way he lamblasts his co-defenders if they concede what he considers to be a sloppy goal (as seen after Robinhos free kick against them at our place) .. contrast that with Dunney walkin' back to the centre-circle after we've conceded one in complete silence with his shoulders drooping!.

determination and leadership
able to motivate those around him, which is why i think kompany or robinho would make a better captain

Last time we were in this position in 2000/2001 we went down and I doubt very much Dunne has the stomach for a dog fight , he would prefer to leave it to others.

I saw an interview with Terry tonight and you can see how much he hates losing even talking about it riles him , Dunnie doesn't have that fierce desire and will to win like Terry has and doubt he will ever get it , its born in you , you can't have someone teach it to you.

If we went down I don't think Dunne would lose much sleep over it.

Terry would be inconsolable for months but he wouldn't let it happen in the first place.

The captaincy does not sit well with Dunne and he would gladly give it up if someone else wanted it more which is similar to his approach to football in general.

He has changed and matured a lot no doubt since he became a father but still behind it all lurks a guy who prefers to have a beer with a mate on good terms as opposed to showing and telling them what they can do to be part of a successful side.

If we had Terry in charge on matchdays on the pitch our performances would improve a fair deal not so much because he is a far superior player than Dunne but he is a far superior captain and leader and organiser.
