What footballing legends do you feel are overrated?

Le Tiss, Hoddle, John Barnes, are three that spring to mind. There are dozens of other England internationals who were overrated, but I’m not sure many of them are thought of as legends though.

This is blasphemy, but: Duncan Ferguson. Even though I did love him as a player.

Agreed about Beckham. He'll always be more famous for porking a Spice Girl and trying to groom his kids into becoming celebrities. Apparently his sons had trials with the rags but were all shit at football.

duncan is a legend for his fighting spirit more than his ability surely

If he wasnt deemed a marketable pretty boy clothes horse he wouldnt have made anything like he did. Clearly well advised and represented, as you say ability had limitations.
