What if we sign just one player, or even nobody....?

We saw in the January window that despite having as much money as necessary, we still can't simply pick the players that we want. It isn't easy to persuade top clubs to part with their best players, whatever the money offered.

Supposing the club sign no new players before next season. Or what if we sign just one big name player, such as Tevez? Can we do better next year with the players we already have?

I would say we would do better, yes. I think with a bit of preparation, a clean sheet and vital lessons learned we'd be able to acheive better things next year with the same group of players.

I think we will finish in a similar position if we sign 0 or 6 players. 3 is the happy middle, no signings means hitting the ground running and no gelling/getting used to the Prem. 6 means lots of gelling and getting used to the prem but it would lay the foundations for the next season.

if we could pick up just barry and aguero i think we would be set. end of the day win 2-3 more away games and we are sorted anyway. this is if dunnes form picks up ofc

Like I've said before, buying players is only part of the picture. The club needs to grow behind the scenes to support the talent we've got. We've already heard that a new training facility is being built, hopefully there'll be growth in the backroom too. So yes, if the squad stays the same we should be able to expect more from the team next year.

Don't forget- we had the 2nd best home record in the league this season. Perhaps a new team bus is all that's required.

ok one player - torres please! £250m or whatever! oh sorry 2, Yaya Toure as well please!

Torres Robinho
petrov ireland Toure Swp
Bridge Onouha Kompany Richards

Could scrape into top 4 me thinks

I don't think its player after player we need. We need to mentality to win away from home.

I'd be happy with 2 players, a defender and a striker.

Yaya is a mid player though. I reckon Hangelaand plus a striker should do the job nicely, and realistically. Any others would be a bonus.

We need many more than two. In theory, if we never had suspensions, injuries, international absences and bearing in mind the club will have earmarked around 10 players for moving on of which 7 or so will leave (Etuhu, Mills, Benjani, Hamann, Evans, etc etc) then you would be right.

In reality we will see around 5 or 6 new players arrive to fill the gaps left by those given the brown envelope.

They will be a mixture of modest and big bucks signings.

It's getting back to that 5 + 2 thing.

We won't need too much depth this (Next if you're still stuck in 08/09) due to our lack of Europe. Realistically we won't be forced into playing more than 20 different players (If that).

If we signed no one we'd have a better Caicedo and Robinho than at the start of this past season and hopefully a fit Petrov, Boinov, Bellamy and SWP, plus more kids (Weiss, Clayton, Trippier, Mee, etc) so yaeh I think we'd be a few points better off.
