Really is getting to me this on this board. People think its ok to slag off the Scots or call them Jocks or Haggis munchers etc. Its been seen on here time and time again.

Can you imagine if i called someone from Africa a spear chucker, or someone from India or Pakistan a Curry muncher, or someone from China yellow, i'd be banned in an instant.

I have bitten my tongue for long enough on this matter and im no longer biting it. I got accused of trying to incite racial hatred on this board, something i vigorously deny, so why when racist comments about people from my country are they left and allowed to stay on the board?

English people may find it funny, but as a Scot i personally find it insulting, crass and vindictive every time i see a comment made.

Can i ask Admin is this board racist free or is it selective in what it picks out as a racist comment?

I know of other people on this board that take offence to the off the cuff remarks made by people on here as i have spoken with them via pm about this subject. Maybe im just more outspoken than others on this board, but now is the time for me to lift the lid on this can of worms.

Who woke the sweaty sock up?

TB, i know your jesting, and i know we get on in other social circles, but it really does wind me up.

Didn't your location used to be Sweaty Sock Land or something similar, or am I mixing you up with someone else?

Unpopular opinion this may be, and I don't really care, but people play the racism card all to often and its getting worse. When its in relation to the colour of ones skin, its absolutely unacceptable, however if using terms like 'jock' is racism, then the world has gone mad.

Every country uses words to describe others that are derogatory. Jocks, Yanks, Frogs, Kraut are words you hear quite a lot. There are more often than not used in jest and in humour and people shouldn't be so touchy about it. When its used to discriminate, then that is where the line needs to be drawn.

Profanity is the most popular slur around, and its used to often that if your called a prick, dick or any similar slur, people don't really bat an eyelid, but if your called a Yank or a Jock its racist? People need to lighten up. I have a few Scottish friends and we always have good banter, I frequently refer to Haggis when taking the piss and I get a lot worse back, its banter. When does it stop becoming banter and start becoming racism?

Not singling out the Scottish here, thats just the main example used. I'm English so I don't know how derogatory the term Jock is, but if someone called Ricster a jock on here, i'll bet ten years salary that any intent to be racist wasnt even given a moments thought.

This isn't meant to offend anyone and if Ricster feels he is a victim of racism on this forum then something needs to be done about it because it is unacceptable. My point is, are people being racist, or is it banter. The same slurs can apply to both, so how do you distinguish?

Im almost worried to post this, because challenging anything racist and people blow up at you, when your trying to be anything but.

There's a bloke on FB called Ric who is Scottish and puts jokes about disabled people, kids and paedos that some people might find distressing.

Shall we tell him to stop as well?

I'm pretty sure people can say whatever they want about the Scots as long as they then post a photo of themselves hugging some bearded caber tosser at the Tartan games as part of a press release afterwards to prove they aren't racist.
