What is stopping us being one of the best in Europe?

There has been an improvement in our European performances this season but we still lack cohesion, squad depth and an extra bit of nous needed to progress further in this competition.

I honestly think it might be the state of fanny in Mcr. There are just too many fat munters for us to compete with the football capitals of Spain, Italy and Germany. Come on ladies - sort it out!

FFP is stopping us from being the best in europe , it means it will take a little longer , because of platini and his old pals act , protecting the old G14 clubs , we cant buy Messi for £250m and pay him £500k a week , only top level players can improve out team , and the £50m budget we will probably have this summer will only buy a couple of world class players . Luckily we already have one of the best squads in europe , so a decent centre back and a NDJ type midfield enforcer , would be nice.

Bad timing to blame FFP after tonight. Atletico Madrid have generated around 40m profit in transfers over the last few seasons. Its what you do with the money, not how much you spend.

Fullbacks on both flanks are still not good enough when compare with other top European teams imo.

A certain michel francois platini.
How much did atletico madrid cost ?
I don't know,enlighten me.
Well 3rd party ownership is allowed in Spain and with the debt they have they don't fully own a lot of their players they are lucky to have had the likes of Falcao helping them attain champions league qualification and winning europa league. It's unfair on the other clubs they owe money to and other creditors a team of the people they are not.

Yeah look at the examples of Atletico/Dortmund.

They both would be happy to have our squad problems like no good RB back up, or no back up for Yaya etc, yet they doing better in CL than us.

We simply arent getting the best out of our team, thats what stopping us mostly. We can improve things with new signings yes, but if they wont play their best as a team tactically/mentally, we wont be really successful in CL. Last year and this year too we had again tactical problems and mentality problems as well. (Barca too, thats why they failed later, Bayern too thats why they were humiliated by Real, so it happens with other big teams too just still it matters when it happens, 1/8 finals or group stage or 1/2 finals...)

Pelle did perform usually really well iweth big underdogs (Villarreal/Malaga) and probably reached their limit with them, but with lot better squads he had a dissapointment year with Real in CL, while this season exiting vs last few years worst Barca can only be seen improvement because before that Mancini's CL group fiascos were total joke campaigns...
(Both year squads lot weaker than us finished ahead of us like Napoli, Ajax, not mentioning the EL where D. Kijev and Sporting stopped us...).

Yeah we did not have much luck with the CL draws, but what was Napoli thinking when they got in a group with Bayern, City, Villarreal. They probably though ohh fuck thats it, we are done...
(No one expected Villarreal be that weak, as they finished on CL spot in Spain the season before logically, and ended up relegated from La Liga in the 2011-2012 season, thats how bad they were end of the season...)

This year was our best year in CL so far, but if we meet Atletico or Real and not Barca it could have been lot uglier and
the 4-1 loss vs Barca was hardly nice on its own...

Everytime we started CL we had lot more potential compared to that what we reached.

Now next season we should really go to the semi finals at least. Or 1/4 finals but only lose in an extremely close tie, like the Chelsea-PSG was 3-3 and away goals decided...
