What is world class???

We hear the expression branded out to footballers nearly every day now, but surely they cannot be all world class? So simple question, Give me 3 reasons why a player is world class. I dont want names, just phrases or words which will then allow us to create a list of world class players.

For me, world class is any player who would get in a squad of the top players in the world, so say the top 3 keepers, 4 fullbacks, 4 Centre halfs, 4 wingers, 4 midfielders and 4 stikers.

like i said, dont start naming players as this topic will turn into a "hes not workd class, but ****** is". Just words and phrases to describe them really, like, unique, consistant

A player who has shone on the World stage. Nothing less than being outstanding at the World Cup. The more the better. Vastly overused phrase and I reserve judgement on Rooney until we see him in that environment !

1. Being able to do things differently to everyone else (unique), and do them alot better
2. Being able to beat the best (Eg. a world class defender, being able to stop a world class attacker, for example Franco Baresi against Romario in the 94 WC Final, or vice versa)

I generally say top 3 in your position. Or as others have said, those that would make up a world squad. We currently have no world class players.

Someone who has such an impact that they have the to change the game.
Someone who leads by example and inspires those around them.
Someone who isn't afraid of working, no end, against everyone and anyone, be it Hull/Wolves/Barcelona. Not just the frills, but not being afraid to get in and work in the mud down to the bone.
Someone who knows that the name on the front of the jersey is a hell lot more important than the name on the back.
Someone who would put themselves on the line for their team and the players around him. Someone genuienly, someone like Roy Keane or Scholes, not brat Ronaldo, not Robinho.

And a plus for me, someone who can go about their lives and stay out of the media spotlight off the field.

To be fair I agree with them, you'll have to wait till about 2:30 in where they discuss what's great and what's not. Well really, it's 4:40 in.
