What make of dog for a beginner?

Mrs Midd and the kids were pecking my head for months about getting a dog , got me to say yes when I was pissed up after a city game
Now got two Maltese’s terriers and a cross Maltese/Chihuahua, they have hair instead of fur so they don’t shed . I wouldn’t be without them now , on the other hand the mrs and the kids are a different matter .

We got a "Poochan" - mixture of a Toy Poodle and a Bichon Frise - in November.

She doesn't shed but the hair is a bit curly so you have to brush them regularly to stop it getting all tangled up. Her poo is small and training to not go in the house wasn't too painful. She is a mixture of easy to learn (from the poodle side) and thick as a rock (from the Bichon side) so she can drive you crazy at times. Goes mental runnig around at times but most of the time is very laid back. Took a couple of weeks to get her used to the crate but she's great at night now.

Be aware that a new pup is almost as bad as a new kid in terms of sleep for oe of you. They can only hold their bladders so long when very young so you'll get very little sleep and she'll be very nervous to begin with and probably need various medical things applied that will have you perplexed. But then you get through the bad few months and it's great.

Life would be easier without our new dog but we are so happy that we decided to go for it after years of putting it off.

I used to walk mine with a poster on here that has a very small Maltese, it was the size of his head, looked as funny as fuck

They are a fanny magnet when I take them to the park, constantly getting attention they are, that’s the dogs not the mrs

first glance i read "what 's the best dog for dinner"....
A Greyhound/lab cross has impressed me the most, for intelligence and temperament, a Saluki for looks and Jack Russell for their ratting prowess.

Do you want to be going out for walks a lot with it?

I’d suggest a Rhodesian Ridgeback. Don’t bark a lot, chilled out, don’t malt much, exceptionally clean, very loyal, safe around kids, not arsed about other dogs or even cats (just like to be friendly)...

Although like to dig holes! And will need lots of food and walks.

Another I’d suggest is a cross bread/mongrel. They are much healthier than pure breed dogs, who are actually all inbred and have many illnesses and disabilities because of the inbreeding. Often die earlier than a dog is supposed to because of their inbred caused illness.
I love Ridgebacks. My sister breeds them. But too big for my lifestyle.
