What was the terrace fashion on the Kippax in the 1980s?

There was a big bus depot on Princess Parkway next to Moss Side baths, Bowes Street, maybe all from there

Yes, they would all park up, the full length of the road outside the bus depot and get in the match for free. Stand at the top of the Kippax above the away fans. They’d all leave about 4.30 to get back to the buses in time for the final whistle.

My grandad was a bus conductor and never missed a match

Even when he wasn’t on football special at 12pm him and the driver would change the number on the bus and drive to Maine Rd

Watch the match then back on the bus changing number back to original so no one got on

Dreary me, there are some folk with rose tinted rear view specs posting on here. I looked an absolute **** in the 80's but didn't feel like it. Why? - because 99% of people were wearing the same tragic shit as me. Reading these posts you'd think the kippax was a fashion parade, but if you want to see what it was like have a look at a black lace video and imagine the same shit hair and fashion but with city scarves and lots of double denim.

When I very first went, aged 6-7, in the Platt Lane, my Dad used to take the piss because I spent more time counting the lighter flashes in the dark of the Kippax than watching the match. I'd totally forgotten that. Great memory.

This is almost like one of my first memories of Maine Road. Sat in the Platt Lane with my dad. Except instead of lighters it was when all the Kippax put their scarves up ( ironically probably singing You’ll never walk alone ). I’d be tugging my dads arm saying… Dad, dad, look at the Kippax. He’d reply something like… I ain’t brought you here to watch the Kippax. Watch the bleeding game.

Yeah i think most fans like to think 80s football terraces were a hive of casual cat walks. As you say, for every lad clad in gear there was some fucker in awful clothes, bad hair, BO and a tash

Round my way Chesterfield, the land that time forgot , we had a top mens clothes shop called Zebra, still going today and that's where all the casuals got their gear from. Chevignon, Soviet, Replay, Stone Island late 80's, diesel just a few of the brands big round here mid 80's time

Are you from Clowne by any chance.
By far the most backward place in all our Isles-;)
