What was your first 'proper' job & how long did you last?

Paperboy, delivering a weekly free newspaper in Bolton - Age 10-12
First Adult job was at Tesco Express - working in the bakery, stacking shelves, serving at the counter. (lasted one year... manager was a rag and whinged at me for taking leave to watch city abroad)
Had an absolute shitload amount of jobs, mainly in Sales/Customer Services/Retail... usually haven't lasted long as I'll end up getting fed up, arguing or something.

Last job was working in a phone shop... the assistant manager was a complete bully, 3 of us walked out within a month.
Would purposely get us doing things to assert his authority but use bully like tactics.

Me being a mouthy twat I spoke out about it and the main manager didn't listen so i thought fuck it and walked out.

I have his home address - just waiting for the right opportunity.

A Call Centre in Stockport, selling Winseal double glazing.

A job that, as a fairly shy fella, I was fabulously unsuited to. I lasted 2 weeks having made not one sale.

I had a Saturday job at our local Sunblest factory ( my Dad was a driver ) when I was 13/ 14 , we'd put the bread crates through the tray wash , each of us had our own drivers whose vans you would empty and they would tip us @ 50p.

The Sunblest drivers were on commission so if they brought any bread back they'd pay us to change the plastic tags on the loaves to Mondays colour , we'd get extra tips for this. This was '78'/'79 and I think we got @£7 for a full day , with my tips I came out with @ £12.

My first real job was at a furniture factory, it was moving premises on the same Ind Est and they wanted temp help for two weeks to help with the move , I started on £50 a week and stayed for 5yrs.

Part-time shelf-stacker at M&S aged 16. Even let me loose on the tills on a Saturday. Oh the excitement. £22 per week which seemed a lot at the time - especially when my weekly pocket money was £2 !

Labourer in the Beaming Room at a cotton mill, stayed for about 8 yr (though not labouring ended up machine mechanic)

Trainee upholsterer at a place in Bury when I was 16. We made Chesterfield sofas and chairs and other expensive leather suites. After a brief training period I was on foaming up. I got the bare wooden frame and put the springs, canvas, and foam onto the frame which was then passed over to an upholsterer to button the leather in place, then on to a finisher to do the last bits. £30 a week for 40 hours. After about a month I went onto piecework. I still remember the rates. £1.81 for a three seater and £1.50 for a chair. I could rattle a chair off in 15 minutes and a 3 seater only took 20 minutes. I was bringing home over £100 a week, which was a lot back then and a big jump from my £5 a week pocket money. I pissed it all up against the wall. We had a bit of a lull and the cunts put me back on £30 a week. I saw my arse and jacked in. What a fucking nobber I was.

Would you believe I was an apprentice Librarian ? £ 19.50 a week and the girl I worked with was a real stunner. Sometimes I used to doze off and sometimes I would read one of the college books. Amazing to think that it's just less than 40 years ago. 1976.

Got a job in a factory in Moss Side using a fly press all day. Think the firm was called Howell Electronics. The job started the day after I sat my last O Level. I walked out lunch time on the second day.

Modern Apprentice at a garage then given a permanent position. 4 years, before the depot was sold off. Learned a lot there.
