It all adds up and they're almost certainly making way less profit than you think.
Rent,Rubbish collection, cleaning products, even the cost of disposables for takeaways has shot up. Don't think there is on bit of running a food or drink business that hasn't increased by 10-20% in the last 12 months.

Perhaps we will see more of them close and the waistlines of the public improve :)

Minimum wage is minimum wage, the corporation makes money from the franchises if the franchises are cut to the bone then employment happens.

To many people a minimum wage job is to get them through uni/college or maybe a summer job or a job that gets you on the rung of a ladder, it seems now that people can't understand that wages go up so do prices then people stop buying and the place shuts or just lays off workers.
It's the corporation who sells the franchises and sets the prices of the menu items. Profit for the franchise owner is based on volume of sales (based on the costs of the raw materials/retail prices, set by the corporation).

The whole business model is built around making profit for the corporation.

Don't think so, trying to get booked into restaurants where I live, and in Manchester seems harder than ever, evrywhere seems busy. My coffee shop is busier than ever. It's quite odd really.

Maybe you'll be lucky but you're not selling fast food are you? Hopefully coffee shops and actual restaurants stay open and it just hits the junk food market.

As a small business owner you'll probably have a better understanding why paying your staff $23 an hour might be a bit of a struggle and that franchises will shut if they get squeezed by the big office and people aren't buying your overpriced food.

Maybe but I don't live in Calfornia and have no idea on cost of living and prices there so can't say what minimum wage should be.. I have not issue paying minimum wage here though and pay slightly over it. I will say many restaurants around here in fact hospitality in general are struggling to get staff and competing with each other for good staff so having to pay whatever it takes to get that staff.

The video I posted is saying that people in the US under the $45,000 salary are actually stopping going to MacDonalds in particular. People appear to think that businesses can stay open when they are stretched, many fold.

I can't see how people class it as a main meal though, a bit of a filler that as you say tastes good but living on them is a bit too much.

I stopped eating chicken curry from overpriced takeaway when they started to use cubed chicken that looks like cat food.
Oh definitely. Hangover only food for me.
