From what I’ve managed to find online, GPs deal directly with the public for that amount of time.

They work well over the full time tariff or 40 hours per week though.

Seems like the attack is similar to that on teachers.

Well one gp at my surgery works one day a week. (Monday in case you ever need him)
That is really helpful with this stupid ask my gp system. Now it might be child care, he might be saving the world for the other 4 but when I have to wait 2 weeks for him to deal with my problem...... it seems he was busy on the middle Monday, it isn't best ever.

That might be down to tax or pension issues. Loads of GPs retired early when the laws changed.

They also have to buy into their own practices, so he might be financially comfortable enough to reduce his hours and limit the amount of abuse he gets off people.

I don’t know him, he might be a lazy bastard, but if I had to guess why he does one day a week, it’s that he’s tired of the public and doesn’t need the stress anymore.

That doesn’t help you or the public, nor does it help to train and recruit young GPs.
