Where would you live if you could

I've been to and lived in many places in the world, some beautiful but dull, some ugly but with a certain buzz but I like the simple things in life so it's a choice of 3...

Orkney. Main island. Anywhere around the Lock of Harray. Archaeology everywhere, a record shop a few miles down the road and some lovely whisky.

Idaho. A couple of hours north of Preston. Achingly beautiful, hardly anyone about and only 2 hours away to annoy @idahoblues

Isle of Purbeck. Once again beautiful countryside but with the Weymouth, Lulworth etc close, Corfe and it's castle even closer and some fantastic village pubs.

Ive family in Killarney, down there a lot. Thriving town but very much geared towards the yank tourists and can feel a little tacky at times.
Love the national park though and has come on leaps and bounds in terms of the restaurant scene.
Dingle just has a charm you can’t buy and that peninsula is about as spectacular as Irish scenery gets.
The ring and West Clare are a good match tbf.

I thought seriously about Canada, it's beautiful. Especially the West. Like you, I wanted English speaking/culture, good schooling, good health system.
We have some very good friends near Toronto, they're from Coventry originally and have brought their kids up in Canada. They've had a great life with high standard of living etc but they're well into their snowy freezing winter sports, skiing, snowboarding etc.
That's not for me I'm afraid, I'm more of a shorts and tee shirt kinda guy so I love the Brisbane sub tropical climate.

We're all different.
I worked in Nova Scotia for a while and I loved it but bugger me the wind chill in winter, it was like being an extra in March of the Penguins.

The older I get, the warmer the clime I find I crave. Costa Rica appeals because then I can be with my spirit animal, the three toed sloth.

Two places I've visited I absolutely loved

Bar Harbor, Maine, USA
Akaroa, South Island NZ

Both gorgeous places I dream about living. But both freezing in winter (which I hate) so I'd have to be rich and just have a summer home there.

Always had a burning desire to experience life elsewhere and feel it’d be a major regret if I didn’t give it a go.

I’m just under 2 years away from finally having the sort of freedom needed from a career standpoint to try somewhere different.

Australia/New Zealand are places I absolutely want to experience - in my head decent weather, English speaking, nature, decent work life balance, good salary, the sea and access to a more outdoors lifestyle would be my idea of a good life.

USA I’d love to experience and travel but suspect the work life balance would put me off long term living.
Canada I imagine would be great but the weather would be the unfortunate negative (to me).
@stablemcfc if you want decent weather forget Australia. They lied.
I arrived in September and its only just stopped raining. Until a week ago it was so cold at night I had a hat on in bed.
I was brought up on Skippy and that dolphin, all I can say is it was done in a studio. Aussies lie to everyone.

Good question. Having lived outside of Boston for over 30 years now, my thoughts are turning south to get away from the Winters here. But while I like the southern states to visit, I am not sure that I could live there with the current fractured state of America. I do love it here but I am increasingly feeling the need to get out.
So Costa Rica for me when I retire. Beautiful laid back place with lovely people.
Or I might come home to Ireland...back to my hometown of Clonakilty; the best small town on the planet. But I am not sure that I could handle the weather.
Just got back from Croatia last week. What an incredibly beautiful country. The coastline is to fucking die for. Maybe there...
So basically, I am a bit undecided...:)
My wife picked Costa Rica

My missus would never move so it's academic for me.

But, theoretically.

Wells, Somerset
North Norfolk - Sheringham.
Vale of Glamorgan
Mid Wales/Adjoining bit of Shropshire/Hereford
Tewkesbury (above the floodplain!)

This would be the shortlist from which the final selection would be made.
Been looking at property in Norfolk recently. Love the big sky and quiet solitude

After reading the first line I’m amazed you went to Australia ;-)
