Ok so here we go again, January comes and more signings will surely arrive and a new team is beginning to be built by Roberto and his team, exciting times ahead I think!.

The question is If you were Roberto Mancini which five players in our current squad you be most excited about working with, be ideally planning to build your team around, keep happy and form the bed rock of our bright future ?

Please give reasons for all players you would include in this catergory.

Mine would be the following.

Shay Given

The best keeper in Europe IMO and consistantly a 8 or 9 out of 10 performer. Can't think of any occasion in recent years where he has been at fault and a top professional who all premier league clubs would love in their side.

Nigel De jong

For me the best defensive midfielder in the PL and will only getter better. I must admit when he first joined I felt we potentially paid far too much, now however I feel we could have made one of the best signings in the prem over the last 10 years. Not the finished article yet which is frightening as he is currently performing at a terrific level of consistancy.

Steven Ireland

One of my concerns with Hughes and getting the best from some players this season was Superman. Last season brilliant and head and shoulders above the rest, this season stop start and now I think Mancini will get him going again. Still young and another player that all sides would love to have.

Craig Bellamy

For the best player this season so far and his drive, determination and work rate especially in our side at the moment is essential. We need him and I really hope Mancini sees that for every Robinho there is a Bellamy and its Bellamys in this league that IMO are better suited.

Carlos Tevez

Was just starting to find his feet recently before last weekends events. I feel that Tevez, like Bellamy not only gives us the required level of work rate and effort but has a incredible level of ability. Only matched by Robinho in terms of the forwards.

So there you go that would be my five, thoughts ?

I think you've pretty much hit the nail on the head there.

I would add in Lescott though. Despite what people here may think about him recently, he does have the potential to be one of the best CBs in Europe. He's a strong lad who has pretty good positional sense, is dynamite in the air and can win a tackle. Honestly, he'd fit into most sides in Europe. He's also a passionate guy and will nick the odd goal going forward.

To be honest, it's hard to pick as most of our players are excellent players ability wise, it's just that the organisation was lacking under Hughes.

I cant say im as posivite as you guys. I agree maybe 20% as NDJ would be the only one in "my backbone". Sure Ireland etc. are good players but they are replaceable. If RM gets Robinho to play well in striker (small deep lying striker position) then I would include him too. So,

NDJ
Robinho
new cb (Chiellini for example)
new AMC (Diego or similar)
new MC (Cambiasso, Essien or similar)

100% based on his ability to forge a working relationship with Mancini

5 would be Given, Barry, DeJong, Ireland & Tevez.

Barry when he is on top form is a real class act.

Agree that Lescott is strting to show signs that he could come good and that Robinho has the ability to be an absolute legend but I will stick with the above (or Dicov 99's list) based on the fact that these are the guys who are doing the business.

If I could have more than 5 the ones I would not sack are
Given (brilliant)
Joe Hart (if we ever get him back)
Richards ( Working hard to re-gain lost promise)
Lescott
Barry
De Jong
Ireland
SWP
Tevez
Robinho (for his potential)
Bellamy
Ned
Kompany
RSC (been impressed with his recent performances)
Weiss

I would not miss
Toure
Bridge
Adebayor

The omissions are ok but I would not be too bothered if they were replaced.

Given - Although you cant really build a team around a keeper can you?

de Jong - Brilliant at his job, consistant and young.

Ireland - Young and has shown lots of promise, however he needs to get back to his best.

Robinho - Still quite young and we all know he is one of the most naturaly gifted players in the world. (Bellamy is too old to start building a team around)

Tévez - His mentality, drive and talent speak for themselves.
