Does anyone know who designed our crest?

Me and my mate were just wondering after seeing a thread about a possible new city crest.

Cheers

This was the emblem of the Manchester Corporation, so it's not a phoenix, nor a random eagle, it's actually part of Manchesters history.

Anyway. I actually met the guy who designed our current crest. He was a designer at JD Sports (John Wardle and David Makin Sports), when Wardle and Makin were on the board. Presumably the issue of a new crest came up and Wardle or Makin asked one of their best designers to come up with an idea. I guess the board liked it so much that they went ahead with it. The designer was a big City fan too. I don't think he got too much money for it either, as it was done in his work time. I presume he got a decent bonus, but no doubt Wardle and Makin 'donated' the crest to City, who trademarked it.

I asked him about the stars, and he said it was just to give a bit of balance to the crest, because without them it looked a bit strange. It was also to add a European feel to the crest as well. They have no other significance at all, other than design wise.

was wondering what the stuff on the crest meant, apart from the obvious MCFC, the ship etc. whats the Australian Adidas logo under the initials all about?

The ship represents Manchester Ship Canal.
The three stripes represent the three rivers that go through Manchester city centre, the Irwell, Irk and Medlock
