Who did we actually beat..?

I agree.

Imagine a CL final and Haaland scored a penalty but then gets another later on in the game.

Are we all screaming for someone else to take it? no chance.
Was he taking it against his club keeper? Have we only one player in the squad capable of taking a penalty?

Southgate has found himself overseeing most probably the best group of England players in not one but two generations but has yet again been found out as not good enough to motivate, coach, manage and install belief in the group to go the extra inch and seize the prize..

For me, it needs to change, otherwise we will be forever the bridesmaid..
I honestly think he's done a decent job. In the past we've had teams where they didn't gel - eg the United/Arsenal/Liverpool players. I'll say it again, but other than Sir Alf Ramsey he has a better record with England than anyone else - that's a fact. He's instilled a belief in the team and they seem to enjoy being there and playing together and again, this is something we've not always had.

He's also turned the England job from being a poisoned chalice into something that's starting to look attractive. He's built some team spirit and I think the players have responded to that. I think if he was sacked, there's no one obvious to take over. Potter and Howe won't leave their jobs and for all the talk of Pocchetino, is there a better example of someone bottling it? Spurs losing the league to Leicester and PSG kicking us off the pitch when we beat them twice.

I just think you have to accept that sometimes you play a team who are better than you. France have a better team than we do, it's no disgrace losing to them. It's no disgrace losing to a Croatia team who got to a final and semi final in successive World Cups or losing to Italy on penalties. It's like saying Liverpool should sack Klopp because he hasn't won the league!

I think we've had better squads, certainly first XIs, in the 'recent' past. In the current team we only really have Kane who is genuinely world class and the rest are very good. I'd say the 2002 squad (Cole, Ferdinand, Beckham, Scholes, Owen), 2006 squad (Neville, Cole, Gerrard, Ferdinand, Terry, Beckham, Lampard, Rooney, Owen) had more world class players and these are the ones who can change games. That said, I think this squad has real potential to push on and win something.

As I've said before, we're one of the top 8 teams in the world and that's our level. At the moment I'd say that France, Brazil and Portugal are better than us and possibly Belgium (with a decent coach), Croatia and Argentina. I just don't think we have the 'right' to win it, we have to accept that other teams are very, very good too. I'm sure Belgium expected to win everything with their golden generation!

He has been aided hugely with that as the Govan piss can no longer manages the rags
It was the GPC who insisted that rag players do not associate with Liverpool or Arsenal players and that insistence drove a huge wedge at international level
Dean Ashton told the story of his first call up and how excited he was
Not one player made him welcome as they all sat there in their little club groups

Don’t waste your time with hard man PMs @Winchester
They won’t be read. Anything you’ve got to say be a big boy and put it on the thread for all to see so we can have a good laugh.
