Who is our best centre back? last 30 years

Loved van Buyten. To think we couldn't afford him at £2m or whatever it was. Only had him for a short time but still the best, I reckon. Very similar player to what Demichelis was at his peak.

Vinny is great but he does have a bit of recklessness about him. Van Buyten never lost his head.

We couldn't afford DvB because KK wasted £6 million on Blobby Fowlup. IIRC. it would have been about £2 million to sign van Buyten.

See what he went on to achieve with Bayern.

Mike Doyle
Although Mike did play central defence in some games he was more of a right wing half, in that great Mercer team George Heslop was more of the central defender than Doyle, Heslop was tidy as well!

Did you not watch City during the 1970s?

Mike partnered Tommy Booth and then Dave Watson throughout the decade. At centre-back.

Yep, started going in the 60s

1. Vinny and Lescott
2. Two of Tommy Booth / Mike Doyle & Dave Watson.
3. If only - we had held on to the one nil lead versus Spurs in 81 Caton and Reid would have go on to be an outstanding pairing for us.

Then you'll know that Mike didn't play as a wing-half for very long.
