Who is the Best All-Around Player England Has Ever Produced?

Can't believe..no one has mentioned the Great Kevin Beattie of Ipswich Town. A defender( Centre half) who could play football.
He could easily play...,when fit,fullback, centre back or midfield.
A giant of a Man.it was said he could play 60 yard passes from the back,straight to feet.Great defender,superb in the air...and older Blues will remember...FA Cup 1981 semi final v Ipswich at Villa Park..the heart in the mouth moments when Big Kevin Beattie comes up for a corner and very nearly scores with a header 1st half, and iirc repeats the trick 2nd half,with Tommy Hutchinson clearing off the line....
KB,s career was injury ridden.But when the Great man was fit to play,the oppennent knew about it....Every time I watch the 1981 semi final..
my heart skips a beat when Beattie jumps for the header..

Definitely not the best and I'll get a few pelters for it maybe, but Milner was a reliable player in many positions for the clubs he's played for. Midfield, winger, full back, no fuss and got the job done. If he had the skill to match his professionalism and work rate he would be considered up there.

I think Gerard would be a good shout too, he could do a bit of eveything, donkey work, spray the passes, box to box and defensive duties, but then again for England he was a bit of a let down at times. So typical of that generation there.

I think in 30 years time we'll have players who can fit in everywhere on the pitch and it could become the norm. Ajax back in day used to play kids out of their natural positions and use made them use the opposite feet to enhance their game, but I'm not sure if they still do whacky shit like these days

I always think that any player who was an essential part of Hughes team,.. then adapt to a totally different tactical set up under Mancini,again playing every week means he's special.
Invaluable on the 2012 title run in,so many inceterceptions,no fuss,consummate professional. Mr consistent throughout his career.

Came through as a central defender as a teenager at Villa. He’d probably have made a great Pep central defender in the Laporte mold
