Who now then?...

When did I say that? I only said that Verratti is world class and I would rather have him over Weigl. Never said that we`re after a world class player

The fact that you’d rather have Verratti over Weigl because he’s “world class” means that you want a “world class” player in, no? Especially considering their shortcomings the past few seasons are very similar.

Correct. I'm quite excited about what Pep could do with Weigl's talent. If we sign him of course.

I think people forget that Laporte (for example), was seen as stagnant before we bought him. John Stones joined us after a bad/average season at Everton. But he bought them because he liked their style. And because he saw their potential.

Pep doesn't just buy just players who are on the up.

Spot on my man. The majority of this squad is based on potential and what Pep can get out of it. He’s essentially building the foundations for whoever takes over and creating a platform of success at the highest level for years to come. Weigl fits that profile for me.

.
The issue with Weigl is nothing to do with his build or stature or goalscoring ability.

It's that he's only looked good enough for 8 or 9 months, and that was in 2015/16. For 2 seasons now he's been poor, and then he added a major injury into the equation on top of that.

That's why no one has come in for him yet, and IMO it's why he's not going to be our secret signing we're supposedly working on.

Genuine question mate as dont follow Dortmund....Wasnt there a coaching change around that time? New system, new squad after the 2016 season could have held him back...just trying to put another spin on why his play could have dropped (other than because of injury) He still young and talented....put that together with the best manager in the world, he might end up being world class and ready to take over from Fern in 2019?

There's been several coaching changes - that's another part of the problem.

He's played well under 1 coach, Tuchel, but looked terrible under Bosz and mediocre under Stoger.

If he's world class under Favre this season maybe it was the coaching changes that did for him, if he's not amazing under Favre then increasingly it looks like he just really suited Tuchel.

Good chance though if he suits Tuchel he probably suits Pep.
