Who should be the next leader of the Tory party?

Mordaunt out as backing Truss.

Unbelievable to say it but Truss has this in the bag and listening to Mordaunt speak then, maybe she is the leader the Tories should have gone for?

Thought that all along tbh. Was never going to happen though, the press very quickly went behind either Truss or Sunak and the party is still debating so dishonestly with itself that they’re not ready to move back to rationality just yet. Mordaunt backing Truss herself being a case in point.

In answer to the OP, clearly not someone this stupid…

From the woman currently serving as the Foreign Secretary whose job is to epitomize diplomacy and tact. Were she to say that about any foreign leader, it would be reprehensible, but to say it about the democratically elected First Minister of part of the United Kingdom is, quite frankly, insane. Sure it will go down well with the people of Scotland.

Whoever it is, you can bet that nothing will change and whilst they continue to openly lie to you, they’ll be reforming policies to help their rich mates get richer while enacting regressive polices for the labour force.

They don’t give a fuck about you and their words aren’t there for you to swallow.

That’s nice of her…I mean we only have a labour force shortage of around a million, so it’s not like have a bleeding choice. Expect more migration liberalisation as we go on.

Ah... all becomes clear. Hustings in a rural area with farm labour shortage...

My mum was on Invalidity benefit between 1983-2013. She had a man in a wheelchair land on her back whilst working and wasn’t able to work after that.

In late 2013, she was migrated onto ESA and placed in the working assessment group, where she was forced to seek work because her new assessment assessed her as fit for work.

She died 6 weeks later.

It‘s worse now than it was in 2013.

It doesn’t come down to who does the assessments. It comes down to the targets set by their bosses.

So sorry to hear of the loss of your mum. My experience has been the opposite though. I know many who have had thorough assessments and been awarded disability benefits

I used to work in the BPO/IT outsourcing sectors and have friends & acquaintances who still do in fairly senior roles inc on DWP contracts. Your statements aren't mutually exclusive.

The business and resourcing models not only drive dysfunctional targets they do also mean you can get quite variable outcomes. It's pretty well documented how badly framed and badly managed some of these contracts have been, the poster child being to the notorious Atos contract.

IMO awarding this type of work to the typical outsourcer is fundamentally at odds with maintaing an appropriate level of humanity and dignity for disabled people. It would also be naive of me to suggest that this is any sort of significant goal or requirement of these contracts.

I have accompanied a number of people through various assessments and in some cases they were an undignified, inefficient waste of tax payers money and disturbingly the outcome was probably impacted by them having someone to fight their corner. The low point probably was being asked if a person I was supporting still had Down Syndrome and when was it expected that their condition would improve :-(

@mosssideblue I don't doubt your own experiences or those of people you know but overall I don't think the systems are designed to deliver a fair and dignified outcome on a consistent basis.

Sadly @Alan Harper's Tash your awful experience is much too common. There are a new round of contracts being initiated at the moment and there is nothing to suggest the government has either learnt from its previous experiences or has changed the focus of what these contracts are designed to achieve. As you say, if anything it is getting worse
