Who's into Classical Music?

I don’t mind it but in the last 6 months I’ve gone from radio 1 and capital FM to tameside radio.

I hit 40 in feb

Whatever you may think of Yes, they did not play classical music.

Unbelievable insight Denis and totally correct in your hypothesis. I was merely replying to Mr Barca's assertion that there are also some great renditions of modern music and orchestral pieces. A fusion if you will of two differing entities coming together as one for the entertainment of the masses. Earlier in thread I offered up Adagio in D minor as a fine example and would like to play this one as another that encapsulates deeply my take on the classical genre. If music be the food of love. Here for your kind perusal and free of linguistical restraint is vivaldis four seasons. Belissimo Janine Belissimo.

More of a Mahler, Beethoven, Verdi man myself.
But Vivaldi is a good place to start educating yourself in classical music.
His simplicity and naivety has a certain charm.

I used to hear classical music in the morning, with the Dawn Chorous.
Things have changed now,
Ho hum.

Roughly 20-25 yrs back we had "season tickets" for Bridgewater Hall for a few years and heard a wide variety of excellent concerts. Kent Negano was conducting the Halle and over a few years I think all of Mahler's sympthonies were performed which was a highlight for me (especially No.2, a most wonderful piece of music)

Then kids came along and we moved further away from Manchester so no more of that...

I love most classical music.

There are many great composers that I enjoy listening to but Dvořák and Smetana are my two favourites. Both have composed some exceptional pieces but Smetana's 'Ma Vlast' and Dvořák's 'Slavonic Dances' are especially wonderful.

Funnily enough I’d just listened to both of those as this thread re-appeared. Wonderful pieces. Now listening to Satie’s Gymopédia.

I regularly attend the NY MET Saturday matinee simulcast broadcasts at Didsbury Cineworld. They start around 18.00 our time.
This weeks was Die Zauberflote and as well as being a superb performance the new production was quite amazingly surreal.
Next month I have three days booked at the Buxton Festival where I will be seeing the musical The Land of Might Have Been loosely telling the story of Vera Britain through the music of Ivor Novello.
Next day it’s Bellini’s La Sonnambula and the day after Mozart’s Il Re Pastore. Really looking forward to it.
