So many great American bands, but for me one towers above all others ...

It's the Doors for me - no-one comes close. Then the Beach Boys, then a big gap to the next. Not too many great bands have come out of America in my opinion.

Definitely not Fleetwood Mac (as has been suggested) for all sorts of reasons
