City are incapable of orchestrating a minutes silence these days. The second the name of the person whose died is mentioned thousands of emotionally incontinent halfwits start applauding. It's like X-factor. They did one at West Ham a few seasons ago where the man on the PA basically told everyone to shut up as there was going to be a minutes silence and there actually was a minute of silence.
I tend to regard the proliferation of random minutes applause to pay tribute to some fella who once did something as a symptom of a society that becoming ever more sentimental as it also becomes cruller.
