I go to a handful of away games per season and have noticed a difference in the past year or so. An away day can be a great day out, having a beer and a good sing-song throughout the game. There's still plenty of that, but something's different. Its great being part of a 'blue army' on their travels, but I can do without the morons singing Munich songs, using washbasins in the loos as urinals, spending the entire game staring at the home support and 'offering out' someone who's fifty yards away and behind a fence. They pay their money so I guess in many respects can do what they like, but that's not for me. Maybe its always been like this and I just notice it more now, but we don't seem as vocal as we used to be.
From a period of five to ten years ago we used to sell out everywhere we went, the atmosphere was great and I used to revel in the fact that we had a good natured, boisterous away support as good, if not better, than any other in the country.
Over recent years, our away support has
declined to a point that it rarely sells out away days, the banter and camoradorie has gone and the people seem to have changed. The banter is no longer friendly and there is a nasty feel to it all. Some of the cretins that follow us on the road are nothing more than sub-humans.
Recently, money has prevented me from travelling to most away games but I don't miss them like I thought I would. This is not simply due to the fact that, by and large, we have been crap away from home over the last three years, it's because of the degeneration in the calibre of away supporter following us.
