Spending some time reading this forum this morning I'm staggered by the negativity about last night. I realise that it wasn't our best performance but equally we won, and taking into account the result that Juve got, the win last night no matter how we got it is huge.

I keep reading that we should be worried about the rags as well. Why? What is it in their form that is much more impressive than ours? Which players have they got who are better than ours? Their manager a better manager than ours?

And all the hanging our own players out to dry, slagging off all and sundry for being shit/naive/not good enough. Some people on here seem intent to slag anything and everything off at every opportunity. Makes the forum a fucking terrible place.

Defensively mate we are all over the fucking show, and are showing no signs of either changing things tactically to suit the personnel we have. The defence was fucking embarrassing to watch last night, that's my gripe anyway. We are getting away with just conceding one goal a game at the minute and it wont last.

Watching De Bruyne play though is a joy to behold, he's fast becoming the best player we have and yes I include the likes of Silva and Aguero in that list.A genuine two footed World class player on the books, sensible , down to earth to boot.

It's not hard to see why people are a bit pissed with last nites game,we are a top club with top players now,and the expectation levels have gone sky high, and will continue to do so every season, but even though we won, which is the most important thing, there was only 2 players who shone for us and one of them just happened to get the winner, albeit very late in the game.

We have to (as supporters) raise our expectation levels, majority of us have seen nothing but shit in last 30 odd years, but now we are onto something it's a case of getting better and better, but there is a lack of something looming over us again I fear, and ultimately this lies with the manager,I ain't too sure what it is but if its a MP v VK situation then unfortunately for the manager the supporters will side with the player, maybe this is what's effecting thing s I dunno, but somethings just not right at the minute, yet we see ourselves top of league and on verge of qualifying for next stage in Europe,so to contradict what I have said maybe all is alright after all.

This coming Sunday is a big game in more ways than one, let's hope the manager picks the correct starting 11 and we get the job done, otherwise you will be feeling that this forum is a fucking terrible place come Sunday night.

The other player who shone last nite by the way was Mangala

I think people are pleased, possibly even delighted, with last nights win. However the performance was the same old same old. We just don't look like ever being able to achieve anything in Europe. A poor performance in the league and we can get past it pretty quickly, we've a track record of winning in England now, so we know we can overcome a poor result or two. I doubt there's more than a handful of people who legitimately feel we can win the Champion's League this season, and last nights performance, on the back of the Juventus and Gladbach games, and the games from previous seasons if we're being honest, will have done nothing to improve those figures. We seem tactically naïve in Europe, we seem incapable of putting together a performance of any real quality, and defensively we seem all over the place. The general feeling seems to be "Yeah, we won last night, but that's just delaying the inevitable exit at the hands of the first half decent team we face". It's a sad state of affairs but, realistically, City haven't done anything to demonstrate to us that those thoughts aren't completely well founded.

As for United, my main concern is that we will, almost certainly, need to score at least 2 goals to win the game as our chances of keeping a clean sheet are negligible. We haven't kept one in the last 8 games and there'd been nothing to suggest that trend is going to end at the weekend. Overall I'm not too concerned about United, we'll finish ahead of them in the Premier League simply because we're better than they are. They will drop points in games between now and May, they just aren't good enough to sustain a title challenge. Chelsea are too far adrift really, if they catch us then we'll have really had a poor season. Arsenal are likely to be our nearest rivals.

Good post. I thought the same last night. We just got an important win & there were people lining up to slate the players.

If you've picked 2 players last night who shone, and somehow missed Navas off your list, then I really don't know what to say!

Expectation and reality are two very different things. This week Bayern lost to Arsenal, and Chelsea and United both drew against easter European sides. Yes last night wasn't an amazing performance, but it was a vital victory in a tough group. There was a time when we'd enjoy a vital victory, not use it as a reason to start flapping fannies about how everything's fucked and we'll never win the CL and we're naive/clueless/insertanothergenericfootballcliche.

All I'm looking for is a bit more balance in how we react to things.

I'm no interested in being quite so deterministic about a season which runs until May in October. I also think that this notion that we need to PLAY WELL and WIN before we do well in Europe is nonsense. We need to get out of the group. If you've already given up on the idea of us beating a half decent team in the knockout stages that's your business but frankly, I'm licking my lips at the prospect of Kun, Silva, KDB, and Sterling getting a shot against someone like Bayern or Barca.

Last night might not have been great but it isn't a reason for the same old piss and wind whining to come out. It's like this forum has been on auto pilot since Pellegrini came in. And not in a good way.

My issue is that its the same old problems, we look like we could concede every time the opposition has an attack! Im sick of our spine always being injured too, im sick of the commentary and the press, im sick of David Cameron, im sick of deforestation and the mistreatment of our aquatic mammal cousins, im sick of the price of energy drinks, im sick of being sick of things, im sick of google+ and most of all im sick of new Simpsons episodes...

The reality is we are now meant to be a far superior side than we have ever been, and should be brushing aside teams like Sevilla, and that's not being arrogant, look at our results this season compared to theirs, who would you take out of that team to start for us on a normal weekend match, not one for me,

That is being arrogant.

It's just frustration, people want us to do well and it still looks like we haven't learnt a thing about how to play in this competition since the first ever game against Napoli. At home we should be comfortable and in control but we panic against these teams and they more often than not punish you for it. The Keegan style of play got us the winning goal last night but on another night against better opposition we could of been 2/3-0 down.

We'll get there but I am more worried by what a better opposition will do to us later on and if we are ever going to have ambitions to win the whole thing it just needs to be perfect across the board and it is far from that. Yes other teams step up later in the competition so you are seeing the likes of Bayern getting beat but we never seem to really step up and play no matter what round we are in.

I don't want to be negative, it was a great result but our performances are worrying in this competition and it just seems like we'll get into the next round, moan as usual about another hard game against Barcelona/Bayern/Madrid and we'll crash out in the same way.

Can't think of another word to describe that post other than arrogant. Brushing aside teams like Seville? Give me strength.
