No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
I had a good old rant about him on a thread in general football which I can't be arsed repeating. However, the jist of it is, he is just a bit stupid.
I cannot imagine what knowledgeable input he would provide other than being a highly paid dogsbody/cone collector/arselicker.

-- Mon Aug 29, 2011 3:42 pm --

Here you go:
Wilkins, like Steve McClaren, is someone who is desperate to sound knowledgeable and credible and thinks that this is achieved by going all out to ape, copy, imitate and do an impression of people that really are.
The clown started it when Vialli came over here and he was desperate to tell anyone who would listen that they were big mates. The sad case even went as far as starting to dress like him and to get his head shaved completely like him. The idiot had been a comb over and track suit man up until then. But as Vialli was seen as this (not necessarily correctly) sophisticated, European football aristocrat, Raymond figured that he could be the same by attempting to copy his every move.
However, where Wilkins gives himself away so much is that he doesn't just stick to attempting to copying mannerisms and style, he - just like McClaren - laughably intentionally throws in phrases that he believes makes him sound like a 'knowledgeable FOOTBALL MAN'.
You'd expect that sort of behaviour from a 5 year old copying his big brother, but both Wilkins and McClaren have been doing it for so long that they are no longer themselves, they are caricatures of what they believe "intelligent football people" sound like. Of course, this makes them talk utter shit as both of them aren't, being kind, the sharpest tool in the box and they mistake cliche for intelligence. And like all caricatures they sounds ludicrous because they are basically a piss take, albeit an unintentional one on their part.
What is shameful is that over the last 10 years there have been so many people - both his mates in the media and some fans - who have, to differing degrees, bought into his shtick.
In any other industry his lack of intelligence and constant creeping to those he believes to be respected, would be seen through quickly and recognised as ridiculous. But English football, still being populated by a lot of Wilkins type characters (i.e. idiots) in many areas, still seems to accept this sort of prat.
Just look at the amount of people this time last year suggesting that Chelsea's early season form and subsequent fall off, was all down to him - a man who wouldn't know an original thought if it hit him in the face.
