Will Smith slaps Chris Rock at the Oscars

I think the worse message is that he was just allowed to sit back down and get his award 5 minutes later.

If you're hosting an event and someone in the audience assaults a performer, you need to have security escort that person out of the event as a minimum. Especially when you've spent the last 5 years telling everyone that you don't accept any discrimination, harrassment or violence.
Was about to say this. Rock has been employed by the Oscars to write edgy lines about the audience. Hes not just walked up to them in a bar and started taking the piss out of her appearance. It's carefully written material that I'm pretty sure the Oscars have to OK themselves before it can be used live.

There's no excuse for Smith here.

It's cheesy American celebrity hype... but it does make for good TV/publicity.

IMO, Smith has every right to slap the shit out of someone trying to bully his wife. Some comedians think they can say whatever they want with no repercussions. That's not how the real world works. By all means, say your jokes, but don't start crying when someone gives you a thick ear.

Think it was Will doing the crying, to be fair.

I don't know if it's the scientology or having his bollocks in a vice for the last few decades but he seems pretty fragile.

Blaming it on the devil was particularly pathetic in my view.

He wont be living that down. Seems kike every Oscars theres someone who makes a complete show of themseleves. Brilliant recovery from Chris Rock.

He'll be feeling pretty silly, that's for sure. What should have been the best night of his life will forever be remembered like this instead

This news couldn't have come at a better time. I'm in bed with covid and it was either going to be another day of staring at the screen reading about the world falling apart or, as it turns out, doing a frame by frame, Monday Night Football style analysis of an impossibly rich, emotionally unstable egomaniac slapping premium Chris Tucker because his wife was still annoyed about that joke he made about her attempting to boycott an award ceremony she wasn't invited to.

Where does my week go from here?

Chris Rock should have continued remaining calm, and joked that whilst he deserved an apology from Will Smith, but as the only way to get one would be to fuck his wife, he was happier to carry on without one.

comedians take a risk being ”edgy” , sometimes it backfires. Tough shit.

Actors voluntarily go to an awards show where the host makes jokes about the audience.

This isn't bullying, he didn't accost them in the street, they decided to sit front row at a comedy gig knowing the host is paid to make fun of them.

If you can't take that, don't go. Don't sit in the front row.

This is the 3rd or 4th time Rock's done the show, so everyone knew what was coming. I just heard on the radio Pinkett-Smith has referred to her and Rock being friends in the past, so this isn't some random stranger coming up and abusing you, it's a friend telling a joke at your expense at a gig you came to knowing you'd get made fun of.

Will Smith spent 6 years making bald jokes in The Fresh Prince, it was their biggest and longest running gag. I imagine he's made a lot more hurtful jokes than Chris Rock's last night.

The right reaction is just to shake your head and show you felt it went too far, not laugh your head off initially and then assault someone when you realise your wife didn't like it and then say the devil made you do it later.

It was the reaction of Hollywood’s fakest couple.....I better do something or people will realise we are only pretending to love each other.
If they were a real couple I doubt they would be that arsed!

It really does seem like your week has peaked too early.

Spot on.

Controversial comic known for making edgy and offensive jokes makes edgy and offensive joke. If you can't take it, don't go to the ceremony.
