Americanisation of football was bound to happen at a point, solely because clubs like us, Chelsea, PSG, various other new entrants like RB Leipzig threatened to shift the power balance by introducing successful and new/innovative projects which would hurt the traditional clubs. American owners have had their increasing influence on the league over years, and ultimately, it got to a point where they took a stand.
There is no money in Serie A, no money in La Liga, and you can see why they jumped on board in an instant. Germany and France are far more stable, have no threat, because of their power and influence over UEFA, they have no interest in shifting to this new league.
Ultimately, we the fans, do not matter. Football is a business now, and this is just one the many money vs money wars to come. This is the most prominent one obviously, and we will suffer the results of it.
I'm disappointed in City, it's the very thing they fought against for years on years, but I also at the same time do understand from their pov, because technically, they do not have any choice. It's either join the cartel league, or be left behind and suffer the fate under UEFA jurisdiction while these ESL clubs stay safe each year and reap the benefits with no fear of missing out on concept of top 4/top 6, promotion/relegation, and the rest.
A truly dark day in football, the game that keeps on distancing itself from the common man and pushes it beyond reach and trying to make it a mere luxury for only the elite to enjoy.
