William Carvalho

I'm willing to wager most on here haven't seen a whole lot of it.
I'm willing to wager most on here have seen a whole lot of the Premier League but they still want Walker and Rose so it can't always lead to gaining knowledge in fairness.

True, but people seem to really like people who run fast

What's your opinion of Carvalho mate? What I've seen he's decent on the ball, definitely a good passer, but I really question his work rate defensively. I've seen him numerous times let runners go past, and he doesn't exactly rush back into a defensive position does he. I'd be worried if City were buying him and expecting him to sheild the back four.

Potentially exactly the player we need, at his best he's bloody brilliant. But he's also capable of half arsing it and looking clumsy if he's not focused properly. He did too well a few years ago and got too expensive, so kind of got stuck at Sporting and his form suffered as he clearly was expecting to leave. There's always a lot of turmoil at Sporting and players frequently are great for one manager then struggle t replicate it with the next and I think that was definitely the case with Carvalho as well.

If Pep can get his head right and get him back on track then he'd be fantastic as he has all the attributes to be a Busquets type player but more dominant physically, but it all comes down to whether they think they can get him back and focused. Peps brother is his agent now so is probably in a pretty good position to judge whether he's got a problem mentally or whether it's all the external stuff and getting messed around. I've not watched enough of Sevilla, but from what I gather Nzonzi is doing a fairly impressive job in the same sort of role and it's that sort of player we need imo.

Again not any worse than Yaya or Busquets
My impressions are based on 2-3 games in CL and 1-2 in the league. His pace/acceleration is not a problem. He just doesn't seem to be reliable both in possession and while defending, doesn't instill any confidence. You watch him and think "well, even Fernando would've won that ball" or "old uncle Yaya would have passed it better". Sometimes he just switches off and you think he's the right person to be next Toure - I mean, next 33 yo Toure. It's not a surprise that he's still playing in Portugal being 25.

He isn't any different to any of our current players when it comes to switching off when defending (that can be worked on) and perhaps now he has changed agents he will finally get his move away. If we do sign Carvahlo he wouldn't be much of problem.
