Wimbledon 2023 | Alcaraz beats Djokovic in the final

The three players who will dominate Grand Slams for the next decade (when Djokovic hits the downslope) are all still in this.

Alcaraz - already US Open Champion and world number 1. Uncharacteristic attack of nerves in French Open semi and will be interesting to see how he deals with it when he next plays Djokovic.

Sinner- unplayable on his day, but seems to suffer with stamina issues in longer/harder matches.

Rune - great player if he can control his fiery temper in the right way. Worked out OK for McEnroe.

Was very impressed by Sabalenka the number 2 seed! Very strong, played some great shots, she is going to take some stopping!
Very unimpressed by that silly Ukrainian player who said she wouldn’t be shaking the hand of a Russian or Belarusian player, absolutely pathetic I hope she gets beat in the next round

Agreed, it's sports, why refuse to shake hands with someone just because of the country they happened to be born in? They're only out there trying to make a career in tennis.

It wasn't necessary for her to bring politics into it.

It’s easy for us to say when it’s not our country that’s been invaded. She might have friends, family or neighbours who’ve had to leave their homes, had their houses bombed or been killed. Even if not, it’s still her countrymen that are.

It took City fans a while to accept Bert Trautmann and he joined us after we’d already won the war, imagine what the reaction would have been if he’d joined us smack bang in the middle of the Battle of Britain…

Well personally I come from a background where an older generation were killed and persecuted for who they were, but id never direct my feelings on that towards the average person affiliated with those that did it by nationality only.

I mean she has the freedom to do what she wants, I just don't feel it's necessary to shine that kind of light on her colleagues when they dont deserve it, it influences the public to also treat them negatively when they're simply just girls playing Tennis. We saw yesterday the girl from Belarus get boo'd for no reason, she wasn't the one that refused to shake hands. It wasn't necessary to create that tension in this setting.

Just my opinion of course.

Shame she is going to be booed to fuck like all of he others . Since when is a fucking 16 year old girl ti blame for a country at war and as for all those who are booing these tennis players want to be ashamed of themselves .

Have they all been booed ? Genuine question. The only one I’ve seen was Azarenka yesterday and I think that was more the crowd misunderstanding why she walked straight back to her chair. They certainly didn’t give her any stick during the game.

At other tournaments, any booing has generally been for the Ukrainian players for not shaking hands.

Good on her. Hope she wins it (she won't though).

But this invasion isn’t happening generations ago, it’s happening now and will still be tomorrow.

Their ban from competing at Wimbledon was only lifted in March and maybe some players don’t agree with that reversal. Don’t forget, other sports have banned Russians from playing at this level. Next season’s CL will still have no Russian entrants and Russia cannot play in Euro ’24.

I agree with football’s stance on not allowing them to compete and don’t think there’s anything wrong with any Ukrainian players not wanting to shake hands.

It wasn't always generations ago. We never held resentment towards the average person just trying to get through life like the rest of us. They're not responsible for psychopaths in charge.

Why do you agree with footballs stance on it? Not saying you're wrong or right. Just curious.

Personally I don't like to outcast people just because of the politicians in their country.

Would you have been OK with England and USA being banned from world cups when they were illegally invading the middle east with lies about weapons..?
