Wimbledon 2023 | Alcaraz beats Djokovic in the final

Yeah whatever happens here, Alcaraz looks like he's going to be the man in the next era. Obviously other players will come along and win major tournaments too because you're not going to win them all the time, but from the young players I've seen, it looks likes he's on another level.

But you never know, there could be someone just a few years behind him even better, but as it stands, it looks like he's going to be around having success for a good while.
He is incredible for a 20 year old, his maturity and range of shots is phenomenal. A real winning machine.

Just read that Alcaraz has a higher percentage of deciding set wins in his career than Djokovic. Including two out of two at Wimbledon. Does he have the mental strength to see this one out, though? I don't think Djokovic will be lacking on that score. He just never gives up.

I don't think you can really compare though when one's been a pro for about 20 years and you're the ones been a pro for just a few years

It's a lot to do with probability

it's like Spinning a coin five times, you could quite easily get heads 4 times but then if you spin it a hundred times it's extremely unlikely you're going to get 80% of one side

The point being when you have such a difference in terms of matches played at a high level, like 15 years worth, the more and more you play, your winning percentage in certain scenarios probably going to decrease somewhat, even if victory is still the majority

I agree

Makes it more the frustrating that people would rather focus on the personality of a Tennis player and think it’s compulsory to say whether you like them or not.
Not ‘rather’; it’s all part of it. We have an awards ceremony going back decades in this country called ‘Sports Personality of the Year’.

Alcaraz plays like he looks like he’s enjoying himself. A lot of tennis players play like they’re in a mood and would rather be elsewhere (especially the Ladies). Alcaraz was fist pumping the crowd in the last game to get them going, Djokovic was being a mard arse because they were cheering for Alcaraz more earlier in the match.

It’s not just in tennis either, it’s in all sports. I don’t care how good Ibrahmovic is/was, he’s an absolute **** and haven’t liked him as a player for a number of years. Joey Barton might be an arsehole himself but he was right when he was calling him a big-nosed wanker.

City have a policy of buying the right kind of players and getting rid of wankers (see Cancelo). Personality is huge in sport.
