Mancini got some criticism when form dipped for playing SWP on the left and Petrov on the right.

I hope these critics will have spotted Duff playing on the right for Fulham yesterday, and Downing playing on the right for Villa this afternoon.

What did Downing do?
NOTHING
Duff was outstanding against Spurs. Downing was just as good / bad as the rest of Villa.

Point is that the tactic is not that unusual. Game has moved on from winger hugging touchline, knocking it 10 yards down the line and whipping it in for the centre-forward.

I think it makes sense sometimes. If you don't have a reasonable target in the box, having players cut in to shoot is an option.

That being said, players who are so one-footed like SWP, can't really cope. I think it would work better with players who can use both feet are more suited for it. Bellamy has worked wonders on the left, and as far as I know he's right footed.

If youve got the likes of Tevez up front on his jack, as we have for a fair few games then swapping wingers is viable, wingers cut in and can still play to feet or shoot, rather than cross to a guy who has no chance vs a 6ft+ centre back (unless its a shit hot cross or a big mistake by the defender).
Ade aint really a target man, he is much more comfortable with the ball on the deck, where Santa is fairly at ease with a ball in the air,
We are getting all possibles covered, we just need to utilise them to their strengths.

I think it can work, when you can cross adequately with your weaker foot, and not have to check back, when you get to the by-line. It gives you a better chance to drive in and shoot.

Yet because Petrov is so one footed, i don't think he can play like this. The players that can, seem to be Bellamy (Brilliant with his left foot, even though he is right footed) and Johnson.

In the prem, the most ambidextrous player must be milner.

I like the idea of switching it up and keeping the full backs confused, not all game long though.

Its important to have wingers that can cross with both feet, or else the full back knows they are just going to cut back on their stronger foot once penned in.

Mourinho's first season at Chelsea when they had Robben on the right, he was unstoppable and bagged/setup tons of goals

if a player can use there weaker foot to a reasonable standard its not too bad but with petrov he can only just stand on his right leg and defenders know this so when he is on the right he is so easy to defend because you know hes definatly going to try and cut inside every time and if you show him down the outside hes going to do nothing with his right and hes even scared to try hitting it with his right so he will still try and cut inside and run into the defender

It can make a winger that can't cross useful by cutting in and having a shot, but really, wingers should be able to cross a ball

his delivery was absolutely abysmal. his best contributions last night were his tracking back

here's an interesting article about this
<a class="postlink" href="http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1255794/Ashley-Young-Luka-Modric-Adam-Johnson--Premier-League-bosses-going-crazy-inside-wingers.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/footba ... ngers.html</a>

i was doing this on Fifa/ football manager for years before it started in the Premiership :P

Adam Johnson got little joy in the first half against Chelsea , because he was playing on the right , when he should have been on the left ....... and it ended up with him being replaced.

Bellamy scored twice from the left side but is just as capable , if not more capable , of playing on the right ....... he's also capable of scoring goals from the right too.

Mancini got away with it because City won the game .....

if we hadn't of done , he'd have had some explaining to do!

as an ex amateur striker i would play left side of the attack i loved coming in with my right foot from the left but im old fashioned when it comes to wingers and think they should be played as they are- left foot=left wing -right foot= right wing!
