It’s a shame it clashes with the Brighton home mens game, as I might have gone down to Derby to watch the final.Absolutely buzzing. Thoroughly deserved. Can’t wait for my first cup final next month!
I don’t follow the mens team.. I’m an Everton mens fan so thankfully don’t have that problem (other than trying to get tickets for some of the final Goodison games!) but it is frustrating having the mens team play at the same time as a women’s cup final. Hopefully we still get a decent crowd down to Derby. Not great foresight by those in charge. It’s a shame it clashes with the Brighton home mens game, as I might have gone down to Derby to watch the final.
Miedema has said she dislikes taking penalties. She was given the ball at the weekend for the penalty vs Arsenal but she gave it away to Fowler. I’m surprised we don’t get Jill taking penaltiesWell done Ladies deserved win and should have been by more. Not convinced Fowler was offside for the second one she scored having looked at it a few times. The penalty given to them was a joke, Knaak clearly plays the ball first and gets a good boot on it, enough to divert it away from goal and not a light touch that was insignificant. Our pen was a bit soft but you see those given in womens games all the time.(Although I can think of several we haven't got for that kind of contact including a barge in Fowlers back not long before the actual penalty was given for us). Can see what she was trying to do by going across the ball to put it high right but the contact wasn't right and it went down the middle. Time to give those to Miedema I think.
Good performances from a few but Auba was very good tonight, a little energiser bunny that never left their back 4 alone and has started to find her crosses which I was a little critical of her for previously. Kerolin looks a great carrier of the ball and thats great in the final third and the opponents box but has got to look to release it earlier when others are better placed, good signs though.
Knaak and Laia were solid but without Greenwoods pace we look a little vulnerable to that shit ball over the top fortunately we pressed them in possession in midfield well last night so they only found the right pass a couple of times, once for the penalty and another where Blackstenius blazed over.
Yama was solid, no mistakes of note and the silly Arsenal twats probably don't realise her command of English isnt that good and their constant goading most likely fell on deaf ears. The sheer repetitiveness of it was mind numbingly pathetic. We kept them down to 3 shots on target one of which was a penalty the other 2 were speculative efforts from outside the box with no chance of scoring, so well done the whole team for that.
Roord was good in possession but her goal scoring touch of last year has deserted her currently, should have had 5 in the last 2 games alone. Shes a big unit so I want to see her be a bit more aggressive and dominate in that midfield area. I still think shes a little tentative post injury so hopefully it can come.
Top marks and M(W)OTM goes to Mary Fowler. Could and maybe should have had 4. Scored two beauties, denied dubiously for a poachers second and earned and should have scored the penalty. Was influential in possession and worked hard all night and deserved her goals. Linked well with Miedema and Auba but was active where a striker should be, in their box and between the posts. I've been wanting to see this kind of performance from her and she promises it often but if you're being critical doesn't deliver it enough. More please MAry now we know its in your locker.
Great result and on to Chelsea in the final. Hopefully by then were back to full strength with Hempo, Greenwood and Shaw fit and firing. We'll be a different beast to that Chelsea easily rolled over at their place earlier on this season.
Champs League draw this afternoon and a possibility we might be facing this lot again. Lets hope they're as humble once more. We've got lots of that particular pie for them to eat if they want it.
I can actually see the logic in how Fowler chose to go straight down the middle. Having also taken one against the same keeper on Sunday it still would have been fresh in both their minds. Mary probably thought the keeper would either go the same way she took that one or go the other in hope that the taker would do something different. Mary chose to blast it straight down the middle and struck it really well (so well it almost knocked the keeper off her feet) and it was more by luck than judgement that the keeper hadn't made the dive.Miedema has said she dislikes taking penalties. I would love it if the men and women’s matches could be played on different days. It’s bad enough when they both play on the same day, but it is surely possible to avoid City PL and WSL matches being scheduled either simultaneously or overlapping. This has to be addressed going forward. It’s a shame it clashes with the Brighton home mens game, as I might have gone down to Derby to watch the final.
Great summary that. Hope you’ve warmed up a bit by now!The first half was the best we've played since the Barcelona home game I thought. We haven't looked that composed and balanced in a long time. IIRC Barcelona was the last/only game where we were able to try a back 4 with Kerstin moved to LB and Layzell on the right. I'd stick with that for the foreseeable as well as with Yama in goal.
Roord was lot more industrious than in recent weeks, Fujino is really showing her quality now and Fowler is making herself undropable.
I've been so impressed with Miedema when she's played. I knew she was a great player and with an eye for goal but I had no idea how good she was at getting stuck in and carrying the ball. Can really pick a pass too. I really really hope she can stay fit.
Kerolin looks a really fun player. Has a tendency to hold onto the ball for a little bit too long but I liked how when we had the ball Casparij would push much further forward allowing her to move inside a bit.
There were still a lot of individual errors/stray passes ilthst could have lost this for us but all in all it was a vast improvement on recent weeks.
I'm not sure where this leaves Park though
As an aside I've never been so relieved to see a last minute winner go in. Thay was the coldest I've been at a game for a long time and the prospect of ET was a horrifying
