Wolves post match

I'm probably in a minority but I quite enjoyed that match, a good cup-tie where we scraped through after looking like losing it - it won't do us any harm to know that winning is not a given.
And will this be our 12th win in a row?
No, it will count as a draw. Shoot-outs are just a means of avoiding replays.

Learnt
  • Bravo has improved a lot - relieves my anxiety if Ederson ever gets injured.
  • Mangala needs to go, perhaps a loan.
  • Toure has unfortunately lost his endurance and pace.
  • Second-team is shite

None of this is new.

Bravo struggled early after arriving late in the transfer window but he has always been a top keeper, his performance last night was in keeping with what I saw of him with Chile, Barca and the Primera - nothing new

Mangala is not the caliber of player to remain in this squad, loan or otherwise - again, not new

Yaya not having legs to work like that again is not revelatory and why he typically isn't going to start but be an impact sub

Second team is not shite, they are simply untested and suffered physically as the match wore on

Biggest issue last night was the lack of fullback penetration via overlapping runs and the general slow play in the final third and again this is merely down to lack of minutes and familiarity. Danilo & Zinchenko worked hard but were too static in that final third & failed to widen the pitch.

Truth is you could just as easily be critical of KDB, Jesus and B.Silva who underwhelmed from either fatigue, the elements or generally not playing well enough.

In the end though, this looked like a typical Nuno organized side and I heard little of that from the English commentators - instead heaping majority of praise on the Wolves' spirit. You don't go from bottom of the table to the top in one season due to spirit alone, it coincided with Nuno taking over

Matches like these are important to fight through, fortunate no one was injured

Might have to wait until Gundogan is fully checked before declaring that.

On "ballgate" there were many times it was kicked and I thought it sounded flat. Could just be PEG type of excuse, but it did cross my mind.

I’ve seen a lot of Zinchenko bashing on this thread. Pathetic.

He was our best and attacking threat, was very comfortable on the ball and was always hungry to receive it.

He’s learning a new position, and hasn’t played any competitive football all season. Yes he was knackered towards the end, but I’m not surprised given his lack of minutes.

The poor performers were Mangala, Yaya and Jesus - Zinchenko wasn’t great, but was one of the most impressive on the night.

Too many sub's? The Sun are running a story that we and Arsenal broke the rule's, as you are only allowed one sub after extra time and we made two. Talking about expulsion or replay
You get an extra substitute that can only be used in extra time. We used it in extra time. The Sun don't know the rules. Or they DO, but chose to intentionally create fake controversy.

Lovely how it wasn't suspicious to them that there can be an actual valid reason that both games where there was extra time had some additional subs...
