Women's Football Thread 2024/2025

On Chelsea - they're a wonderful side no doubt, but Christ they've had very kind draws all season.

6 draws now - every single one at home against a kind opponent. The only time they'll leave London is for the League Cup final and they haven't come across a single fellow top 5 team in the WSL until the final itself. A remarkable leg up.

Their draws this season
League Cup
QF Durham H
SF West Ham H

FA
4th rnd Charlton H
5th rnd Everton H
QF Palace H
SF Liverpool H

At seasons end when they've likely swept the board and won the lot, the question "just how have they done it" will be partly answered by the above. Never playing away, ever - playing only 1 other top side in either Cup.
Don't let our results fool you. We aren't playing that well. In my mind we are far, far from certain to get past you in Europe, and we certainly won't win the CL playing as we are at the moment. As for the WSL we may well end up needing a bit of help from you and Arsenal in your games against United.

And yes, we've benefitted from remarkably kind draws in the domestic cups this term but that particular worm always turns in the end. I remember when we enjoyed a run of successive home draws against you in the cups but, in more recent seasons, that's been reversed with you getting a run of home draws against us.

P.S. When we won the cup in 2021 we played you (away) and then Arsenal at Wembley. The next season we beat Arsenal (away) and then you at Wembley.

Given your strength in depth Id be amazed if you didnt sweep the board domestically at the very least. Id give us more of a squeek on Saturday if Hemp and Greenwood were fit but sadly they arent - arguably our 2 most important and best players.

I agree with you on the quality of those two players. I really hoped Hemp would join us when she left Bristol but she didn't. Shame for us, great for City.

I'm really looking forward to tomorrow. Ten days ago the rumour was that Hemp had a good chance to make it so, from the point of view of a spectacle, it's a shame she is missing. It's a shame about the injuries but it seems to be an escalating issue in the game. There was a time when it seemed that one club would suffer an injury crisis like you did a two or three years ago when player absences early on destroyed your season before it began. These days however it seems that every club goes into every game with multiple absentees. Something for the powers that be to think about.

Meanwhile, I'm expecting a close and exciting game at Pride Park. Can't wait.

Hmm, selfishly a shame it now clashes with Paris Roubaix, but I am glad they’ve kept it at the Joie. Looking forward to seeing the Cushing Bounce in full effect.

Rags Women lost 3-1,nice.
And we whipped the Dippers 4-0. We should batter the Ragettes 7-1!

I wasn't particularly paying attention but I think I heard Natalie PIke say that Dame Sarah Storey will be a guest at the game on Wednesday. Her Wiki mentions her surporting connection to the Rags. What's goin' on there, or did I completely mishear.
