Best this team can hope for is third place and the Scum girls might have a say in that.

Watched the game and have to say there’s a few in that team who are simply not at the races. Stokes and Walsh have regressed alarmingly (both looked sloppy and disinterested) and Houghton is clearly distracted by more important issues in her life.

I’ll be honest and say I only follow the women via their results. Has Cushing taken them as far as he can now?

Cushing has become an easy target. The salary cap has robbed him of his best players... he assembled a good squad in the circumstances but it’s a competitive league at the top - so margins are tight and I think we’ve got a few players already eying moves overseas to triple their money so I’m not sure it a particularly ‘happy camp’. I’d certainly give Cushing until the end of the season and judge him then.

I agree, I'm not sure what he's done that wrong.

I thought it was a very good, and very competitive women's game, probably the best quality I've seen this season, we for the most part defended well, chelsea had more attacks certainly and hit the woodwork a couple of times, but we had a good spell at 1-0 up and didn't capitalise on it, I thought both their goals were a little fortunate too, overall they just about deserved to win a very decent game.

There's a lot who post on here who think our women should be playing like the men did in the centurion season, its totally ridiculous to think that way, they try to emulate the way the men play, and its admirable they do, and sometimes they look very good at it, but ultimately they aren't as skilful, and they certainly don't have the pace or power, but we are still a very good women's team.

We still have the best defence, and the third best attack, and remember that arsenal had a bit of a freak score last week.

I enjoy watching the games, I really enjoyed today's, and as a compliment to our girls, that's probably the best chelsea have played in 2 years.

There's always talk of the wage cap in the women's game , but Arsenal and Chelsea still seem too sign star players !
Yes we've lost star players, but we are not replacing them ! Personally I would moving Nick Cushing to manager of the youth and development teams , then look for a big named as first team manager/coach.

Very good post, C, but the last couple of matches I've seen at The Academy have been grim watching. We might score five but the first hour can be a lifeless, banging head on wall kind of play. The downside of copying the men is the notion that possession will have it's own reward. We don't mix up the play - it is always passing across the back, and back again, up to the defensive mid, and then back to someone in the back four. We seem not to have a carrier who can beat a woman (that's dribbling round her for those who think, like Phil Herman, that we're talking table tennis!). Every team in the league can defend, and if they get lucky we find it difficult to break them down. The heart and creative soul seems to have emigrated to Lyon and Spain and we haven't had like for like replacements. I look at other teams and they have but one purpose and that is to get the ball into our area. We seem to think that it will only be a matter of time before we get into the promised land, and in the meantime we might have let in another shitty goal. But, hey ho, if they wear a City shirt I will be there.
