URUGUAY VS RUSSIA

Match kicks off at 15:00 (BST) on ITV 1.
Coverage starts at 14:30 (BST). Presented by Mark Pougatch, analysis from Martin O’Neill, Henrik Larsson and Slaven Bilic, commentary from Sam Matterface and Lee Dixon.

Battle for top spot in Group A is decided in this fixture between free-scoring Russia and a compact and efficient Uruguay. In 2 games Russia have managed to 8 goals to Uruguay’s 2 and they have really been one of the tournaments surprise packages. This will be the first real test for both sides because no disrespect to Egypt and Saudi Arabia but both of them have been really poor.

Group A as it stands:

As you can see Russia lead by way of goal difference but that won’t matter should Uruguay manage to beat them.

Uruguay’s goal scorers so far:
Gimenez (1).
Suarez (1).

Russia’s goal scorers so far:
Cheryshev (3).
Dzyuba (2).
Gazinskiy (1).
Golovin (1).
Own Goal (1).

SAUDI ARABIA VS EGYPT

Match kicks off at 15:00 (BST) on ITV 4. Coverage starts at 14:30 (BST). Commentary from Joe Speight and Iain Dowie.

Is anyone even watching this match?

The battle to be the worst side, in arguably the worst group, in the World Cup. It would be funny to see Salah’s side finish bottom after all the grovelling from commentators and pundits.

Group A as it stands:

As you can see the goal difference situation means Saudi Arabia need to win this game to avoid finishing bottom.

Saudi Arabia have no goal scorers so far.

Egypt’s goal scorers so far:
Salah (1).

IRAN VS PORTUGAL

Match kicks off at 19:00 (BST) on BBC 1.
Coverage starts at 18:30 (BST). Presented by Gary Lineker, analysis from Didier Drogba, Cesc Fabregas and Alan Shearer, commentary from Steve Bower and Mark Lawrenson.

Probably the more interesting game between the 2 remaining games in Group B, as both teams can essentially knock each other out, although there is a possible scenario where both teams can go through. There is a couple of interesting aspects to this game; Portuguese manager Carlos Queiroz takes charge of Iran and will anybody other than Ronaldo score for Portugal. Iran showed vs Spain that they can be dangerous, so Portugal have to be careful.

Group B as it stands:

As you can see Portugal lead Iran by a point, so a win for either side would guarantee them qualification. If Spain lose, there is a scenario where they can draw and both go through.

Iran’s Goal Scorers so far:
Own Goal (1).

Portugal’s Goal Scorers so far:
Cristiano Ronaldo (4).

SPAIN VS MOROCCO

Match kicks off at 19:00 (BST) on BBC 4. Coverage starts at 19:00 (BST). Presented by Gary Lineker, analysis from Didier Drogba, Cesc Fabregas and Alan Shearer, commentary from Steve Wilson and Martin Keown.

Spain enter this game knowing that a draw is good enough for qualification to the knockout rounds. However, I suspect they’ll want to avoid Uruguay, who many have favourites to top Group A, so they themselves will want to top Group B. A win would ensure that, assuming their win was by a greater margin that ‘Portugal’s win over Iran’ (hypothetical). Morocco are already out now and know that they are just playing for pride and potentially leap frogging Iran in the group.

Group B as it stands:

As you can see Spain are only above Portugal courtesy of the fair play system, less bookings, as they are level on everything else. They know that any kind of draw or win ensures qualification. However a big enough loss to Morocco, could open the door to Portugal and Iran drawing, leading to Spain’s elimination.

Spain’s Goal Scorers so far:
Costa (3).
Nacho (1).

Morocco have no goal scorers so far.

Joe Speight and Iain Dowie draw the short straws, then. Either that or they must have been very naughty boys.

Thread title has the wrong kickoff time mate.

Wonder if this Uruguay v Russia match will be a bit of a “we’ve already qualified, so let’s defer to the host nation” boring affair.
