World Cup 2026

Iranian fans now not allowed any tickets FFS.

Iran's allocation of fan tickets for the group stage of the World Cup has been revoked just days before the start of the tournament, says the country's football federation.

The World Cup, co-hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States, begins on Thursday, with Iran scheduled to play New Zealand on 15 June and Belgium on 21 June - both in Los Angeles - before facing Egypt in Seattle on 26 June.

Iran's governing body says Fifa regulations state each federation involved in the World Cup receives 8% of the tickets for each of their matches, to distribute to supporters.

It added that it had already begun selling tickets but can no longer provide them to fans, some of whom have already made travel arrangements.

"Depriving Iranian supporters of access to their lawful and official allocation of tickets is an action contrary to the spirit of governing international competitions and the principle of equality among participating countries," the FFIRI statement said.

"This development raises serious questions about the interference of non-sporting and political considerations in the organisation of the world's biggest football event."

The FFIRI also called on Fifa "to uphold the principles of neutrality, fairness, and established regulations

Not surprising, I think as it stands the Iranian team have to fly in and out of the US on the same day as their game. Pathetic from the US Government.

What's more shocking is that of the 8% allocation only 70% of that goes to fans, so around 5.6%, so in the entire stadium only 11.2% will be made up of fans from the countries playing. Fucking disgrace.

FIFA have a lot to answer for their greed. I hope it goes tits up for them.

Interesting listen to Business Daily on the world service this morning about fifa. They are expected to make 9 billion from this tournament alone and they had someone on from Chicago on why they aren't hosting a game. Apparently fifa wanted Chicago to sign a contract that all tickets sales and anything sold in the stadium went to fifa and not the stadium owners plus the cities. Unfortunately unless drastic changes are made I think football will end up eating itself.

A good referee denied entry because of his nationality; a competing nation's fans having their tickets revoked, this is in danger of becoming a farce before it even starts.

Yep - I don't know your age, but certainly, as a kid in the 70s, excited/nervous about playing all these exotic teams with players that you'd only heard about in stories, it was really magical, wasn't it? Especially in 1970 (8 years old), where all the talk was about this incredible 'Pee-lee' that all our dads had told us about.

These days, watching opposing players slapping each other on the back and hugging in the tunnel ('Hi Pal - see you at the Adidas photo shoot next week?'), when we could watch every single game they played - if we had the inclination - there's zero mystery or romance any more.

Petty it may be, but I've spent more time in this build-up celebrating the daily embarrassments to trump and FIFA then I have in giving a toss about England or their chances. Genuinely sad - kids today miss out on so much.
Reminds me, a little off topic, when I went to my first European night match at Maine rd, Juventus ‘77. It was an almost mystical experience when the Juve team came out, seeing players in the flesh that I’d only read about in newspapers or Shoot mag or seen on tele at the World Cup . Nowadays u can see players from all over the world anytime u want.

Imagine if Qatar had restricted entry to the Country for overseas fans at the last World Cup ? Our media would have gone berserk ! I look forward to the BBC blanking the opening ceremony?? In protest.

Infantino shouldn't survive this utter farce but, depressingly, he probably will.

He’ll survive on the basis that his job is supported by the ongoing corruption that is FIFA. Everyone is profiting and helping themselves to cash. No one will vote for change because they are part of the problem and are too busy getting filthy rich.

I shall not be watching one minute of this repulsive event. Only one country in the world, and only under this president, could think that they could impose such conditions on fans, players, even referees.
And FIFA bends over and drops their trousers for them.

You have to try and cast that shit aside, it's like football here and in Europe what City play in, corrupt as fuck, but we still go and watch them, we are lovers of the game itself, not the bullshit that goes on in the background, we have to keep the love of the game burning for as long as we can.

There was outrage when it was in Qatar, but it still went ahead and most watched it, the same will happen here, will it be funny as fuck when there are half empty stadiums, course it will, so maybe they will learn a lesson, but we all know every football tournament these days is all about the coin.

I don't want to sound contradictive, as I won't be setting my alarm for 2am to watch Iran v New Zealand, but on the reasonable kick off times here, (as England's games are) I will be tuning in, will i lose sleep if England don't win, will i fuck, nothing compared to when it is City, but I will watch it, and those that don't then fair enough, gardeners world and bake off must be a lot better than i ever thought

I'm 50, so I've seen my fair share of really great world cups. The '94 world cup felt like it fit here (I live in the US these days) and it was a cracking tournament, but this one from the off has stunk. I think they set their stall out with the ridiculous ticket prices and its left a really sour taste in the mouth. Now this visa bollocks (a fucking ref cant get in ffs?) and all the other negativity around it...its not shaping up too well.

That said, once it gets going the football hopefully will trump (no pun intended) the shitness, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

I don’t because the WC is the pinnacle for the footballers themselves and great for the fans too but I get where you’re coming from. I don’t think it should have been in America or Canada as neither have a big history in football, okay South America does. The WC is about the fantastic colour the fans bring to the tournament, or should bring. We’ll have to see how vibrant this one is or if it is a damp squib.

Once it kicks off, all the other noise dies down, it always does.

Remember all the righteous folk talking about human rights in Qatar? Didn't hear a word about it once the games got underway. The likes of Gary Neville suddenly couldn't give a fuck once he got a paid gig out there.

The ticket prices are sickening though from what I've seen. Are we going to get a load of half empty stands or are all the tickets gone? I don't even know.
