Worst Goalkeeper

I think I took my ERO to that game. I think we were screwed by HT. Can't remember a single player, let alone the goalie.
Here you go Dave (I hope you're sitting down!).......

*edit* I see Chapo beat me to it. Story of my life.
:-(

Here you go.

That's the one - fuckin' returning nightmare - Jackson, who finished his days at Wigan, or was that where he started, Beagrie 'n Beardsley, and that Preki! Jeez, it's all flooding back. I did remember that we were buggered by HT, so I should be able to find my seat among the FOCs in CBL3 tonight.

Dibble was also awful.

I was watching some old season reviews in the summer and some of the goals he let in were beyond belief.

His performance in that 3-3 Forest draw at home in 94 might be the worst performance I’ve ever seen from a City keeper.

I was at Walsall away when Dibble let in two goals and was getting stick from us behind the goal in a jittery performance. He then took a goal kick and went off injured and Nigel Gleghorn had to go in goal. Dibble got loads of stick when he went off as we were convinced he was feigning injury after having a go at us just before.
In typical City fashion after reading 3-2 we let in a late equaliser after an horrendous backpass was intercepted.

State of Forest’s 2nd and 3rd

We watched some fucking dross in our time. Anybody believing we don't deserve our recent success should take a look at a few of these videos, it seemed at the time almost every week we watched crap like this.

Not sure if he's been mentioned but during 2003(?) right before David James came in, David Seaman was injured and we had a
I have two nominees, the first of whom is Margetson. My memory of him is that he occasionally displayed vague vestiges of competence, but when he was bad he was catastrophically so. The game against Everton on the last day of the 1992/93 season, when he had to be subbed for his own good at the break after being at fault for three goals and lucky to get away with other errors, was probably the worst goalkeeping display I've ever seen. It utterly defies belief that he then had five more seasons at the club, but the decision not to dispense with him eventually did come home to roost.

Margetson made two dreadful errors to cost us points in the relegation run-in when we went down to the third tier in 1998. One was the Easter game at Wolves where the home team levelled late on after Margetson kept them in the game with, if I recall correctly, a corner he dropped into his own net under no real pressure. The other, little remembered thanks to Jamie Pollock's amazing own goal in the same match, was against QPR in the final home fixture; he allowed them to equalise Kinkladze's early strike by idiotically picking up a backpass, then immediately handing over the ball so they could score from a quick free kick. They were two disastrous and abysmal pieces of goalkeeping within five games at such a crucial time for the club. If we'd had a competent back-up 'keeper at that time, I'm convinced we'd have survived.

The other one that strikes me as worth a mention is Kevin Stuhr Ellegaard. He had a career in the game so must have improved, but he was dreadful when, as a young player, he first made our team. In the old days, before goalkeeper subs, you occasionally used to see an injured goalkeeper replaced by an outfield player, and the whole rest of the team usually used to drop back, defending desperately in depth to protect the novice custodian. Ellegaard with us circa 2004 is the only specialist goalkeeper whom I can recall ever making his teammates adopt the same approach.
Remember Ellegaard! Deer in the headlights. I'm sure he started that game where Leicester beat us 3-0 at home and Dickov scored. That pissed on our season big time we went ages without a win.

Other than that Isakson was crap considering his pedigree. Poppadom hands

Think City have been pretty blessed with, at worst, average goalkeepers in my time supporting them. Even during the Pearce years we always had a good defence and keeper. Since 1999 we've had (as our first choice goalkeeper) Weaver/Nash, P Schmeichel, Seaman, James, Weaver again, Hart/Isaksson/K Schmeichel, Given, Hart again, Bravo/Caballero, Ederson.

Seaman probably the worst of the lot by the time he played for us but, as we later found out, he was nursing an injury the entire time and had already had a long successful career. Bravo, though, was probably the worst for that sinking feeling when you saw his name in the line-up. That night Walker ended up in net summed it all up.

But even then he was a good sub keeper (on the whole) once the gloves had been given to Ederson full-time and he was the hero on a couple of occasions in big League Cup games, and he won us the Community Shield shootout against Liverpool. Similar with Caballero, who was largely bollocks as a sub keeper but pretty consistent when first choice.

If Bravo's the worst I've seen then I've done alright.

Margretson. Bravo was a decent keeper in the main (despite the first season). Immel was second who was past his best when signed and couldn't fully adapt to Premier League football (considering he was replacing Coton, who was the more comfortable keeper recieving back passes and was more commanding of the area) and Ellegaard was third. Seaman was similar to Immel although still could communicate with the defence.
