I'm interested to know what people think. I've heard people say Kinky would walk into this team. I've heard people say he's the best player City have ever had.
I disagree. For me, while he had a great individual talent and ability, would I really swap Silva for him? Not in a million years. His career was defined at City and nosedived when he left. Good player yes. Good enough for this side? No.
What are your thoughts?

Unfair to judge a player in 2014 when they played years back now.

You mentioned Silva and lets roll back to say 1996. Imagine how football was played and the style back in '96.
Now imagine David Silva playing on the pitch back in 1996.

I just can't imagine Silva lasting long and would probably get the shit kicked out of him.
He'd be injured every week.

Kinkladze played at a different time. Great memories watching him as a kid.

No

Silva's in a different league to Kinky and Nasri's a better all round player.

But man did he cheer us up at the time. I didn't go but I'll never forget watching us beat Oxford 4-2 away on telly and being absolutely fucking dazzled by him.

Not sure we could accommodate both KInkladze and Silva in the same side. I would have loved to have seen it though! SIlva is very similar in how he carries himself on the pitch with the ability to see 2 steps ahead and a range of passing to die for. Silva has more of a ghosting style when he carries the ball whilst Kinkladze just attacked defenders and walked past people with the ball like they weren't there and could score as well. Would have loved to have seen Kinky at the highest level in a side with decent players - like the side we have now - I have no doubt he would have been exceptional. Shame he never got the chance playing for a shit City side - a shit Georgian side - a poor Ajax and even shitter Derby! I was always surprised nobody came in for him when he was playing for us in his pomp - still some fond memories I will never forget of outstanding individual brilliance.

The pitches weren't that bad in the 90s!

Not comparing them as such. Loved kinky too. Played in a different formation I know, but his game was more about going past players rather than releasing the ball. Silva so much more a team player. Like with SWP (who is a legend by the way) I think we'd soon see his limitations alongside better players.

-- Wed Jan 15, 2014 2:33 am --

Yeah i remember watching that game too. That and his goal against West Ham and of course Southampton were my happy memories of Kinky.
