I believe this will be upon us within ten years maybe less. Champions league is the true interest of the top clubs all over europe. may take a packer/ipl renegade tv deal but it will happen.

It could even be the answer to domestic leagues producing the finest home grown talent again.

100% yes. only a question of time.
As long as Europe's big clubs continue to have a dip into the chumps league money pot most seasons they won't kick up too much fuss. Disturb the status quo by making the domestic leagues genuinely competitive (salary cap?) and the top clubs would soon spit their dummys out and break away.
