Would you like a big house ?

The important thing is to have at least two khazis. My missus has been known to camp in one for an hour, in which event I would have a real problem at times without the second. After that, all else is luxury. I would like more room for my books, I must admit, as I have an awful lot. But would I want to live in Lyme Hall? No, not even rent free, it would be too big, too cold, too much to look after.

Got a little 2 bed semi detached man pad. I can only be in one room at a time so what is the point of anything bigger. Busy full time job so keeping it clean and neat and tidy is easy. Bills are cheap. Everything I need fits in it. Im not one for stuff either, only got what I need. Couldnt be arsed bothering with a big house, too much hassle
Bang on mate.
Small is beautiful.

Or are you happier in a small house.
3 years ago I lived in a 4000 square foot house on 2 acres of land.
At first I loved it all that space, huge shed, lots of grass trees etcetera.
But then after a couple of years I began to get fed up with it, constantly mowing, weeding grass, trees falling over, gutters full of leaves, cleaning the house was huge, rooms that you only walked past and never used, it all seemed so silly and the cost of it was quite big I had a $5,000 ride on mower, I had all kinds of equipments and we had tons of furniture, ornaments, books and shit to fill the house.
My weekends were devoted to house and yard work.
So after living there for 5 years we sold up had a huge garage sale, and donated loads of stuff to the Salvation army, and downsized to an apartment where we live now.
The apartments isn't big and has 2 bedrooms and to tell you the truth I've never been happier, 90% of our possessions have gone and we just have the things that we actually need.
Sometimes I drive past big homes on acreage and think 'yeah that looks nice but in reality I wouldn't want to live there'.

We used to be in a similar situation with a huge house, gardens etc (in a developing country though). When we decided to return to the UK, we bought what we thought was a relatively large house (there were 7 of us then) sight unseen, through the internet, but when we first saw it, we couldn't believe how little property we got for the same money. It took us a while to adapt to the much smaller space but we have been very happy here since then. In fact, with a couple of the kids moving out and my father passing away, we have even been saying the house is perhaps too big for us!

We're planning on moving overseas again for a couple of years and would be living in a city, so most likely we'll be renting a flat. If that goes well, when we move back we'll probably sell the house here and look for an apartment in the town.

Did exactly the same mate. Love it.
I’m glad I did the big house thing for a while, well 20 years, but don’t miss the upkeep and the hassle one bit.

Modern 4 bed house, not massive but a good size family home
We stuck a big conservatory on the back as an extra sitting room and a big dining room
The house has one bedroom ensuite, family bathroom and downstairs loo

A few years ago I packed wifey and the two kids off to Spain for a week and then realised just how much house I have. All I used that week was the hall, kitchen, living room and main bedroom
When they returned I told wifey that as soon as the kids go, we downsize

we have a decent semi,6 beds over 3 floors. a complete waste at our time, would swop for a tiny cottage in Tuscany if i could.

beware of retirement flats, you may not make the stairs later on in life.

I've always said even if I had a £1 million budget I wouldn't want anything more than a very small, very simple one or two bed cottage, just as long as it was detached, VERY detached and sat in the middle of several dozen acres of it own land.
Frogmore cottage would suit you perfectly.

We have a 4 bedroom townhouse set in a garden we also have access to the road which is handly place at the end of the driveway ,we also have windows in every room except the down stairs loo, what makes our house stand out is 2 doors leading to the outside ,one at the back and one at the front, all this set in the rural Cheshire country side village of heald on the green, would I swap for a big house with it's own 6 acre fishing lake I'm open to a swap, but I would need a bit of cash on top, forgot to mention we also have a londis just 5 minutes walk away

Well said Snorky mi ol' cock sparrer. Do we no longer have standards in this place ?

Getting more like a council house every day.
