these two are pretty scary landings

Theres a airfield in the Himalayas called Lukla (you need it to land lol), you can only land from one direction as at the end of the runway is a sheer mountain and the other end is a 1000ft drop into a ravine. Land too high and you crash into the mountain, go too low and you hit the cliff and travel in 1000 pieces down to the bottom.

are you sure its 1000 pieces?not 1006 or say er 999 because someone may only have 1 arm..got you thinking now eh,

lol either way you wouldnt be making it to passport control in one piece.

The St.Maarten videos are pretty cool, theyve been around the net for quite a few years, infact many plane-spotters often make it their number 1 choice of destination. The fence is interesting in the fact that aircraft barely clear it by 2 meters, and all this is by visual landing, St Maarten doesnt have ILS or other guidance to help the pilot land the aircraft, its all done visually and from the cockpit instruments.

Another good airport to land at is Innsbruck, surrounded both sides by Mountains and horrendous to land at during the winter months due to the geographic winds, altitude and icing.

FFS! Handy for the beach, anyway!

you cant beat a mad landing, gibraltars always pretty mad with a sharp bank to avoid spanish airspace and when i was in the falklands we would go and watch the tristar land if there were really strong crosswinds as the aircraft seems to approach sideways then straightens up at the last minute, proper mad...

Talking of plane crashes, anyone remember that Spitfire crash at Woodford back in the early 90's? I still recall it being around the same time the Vulcans were being Decomissioned so must be about 93 or 94 when the crash happened.
A shame Woodford airshow stopped, it was a great Airshow aside from the new Southport airshow which is getting better every year.

Proper scary flying...

Been in cockpit during one of these sorties. Shat myself!!!

Right then,

St Maartin, done that
Mount Pleasant with 30kts across, done that (stonie if you were there between 93 and 98 I may well have taken you)
Gib, piece of cake. Touched down on the spanish road once on the 4th attempt

Air to Air, did both ends (not at the same time)

I hate flying these days (unless it's in business class)

Next?

I always remember the flight crew doing the blues brothers as we were taxiing to the runway!

All sorts of strange things go on down there ;-) On my last tour I did my last 'see-off' stark bollock naked (well, except for my hi-viz vest!). Got some pics somewhere but can't let anyone see them as it was well cold :-0 Honest!!!
