He did pass away.
His son took over the site afterwards, and at the time there were some very loose discussions about the possibility of helping him convert it to a more search engine friendly and usable site. Unfortunately like many projects of this kind, we never really got it off the ground nor ironed out the details of it.

In fact I'd suggest that the Bluemoon history section is the most underutilised resource in the entirety of the City fandom and has thousands of hours of research and content put into it, yet is often forgotten by the average Bluemooner. I use it on a regular basis sometimes for reference, sometimes whilst drunk and wanting to watch some goals from the matches I went to in the 80s and 90s.

Totally agree. I've written before about the history of MCFC's history and who has contributed what and when. These things are often the work of many and I have always been grateful to Ray Goble (still collecting City stats in his 80s, after several significant health issues which have now left him partially sighted!), Dennis Chapman and John Maddocks. These three men were the ones who did most of the ground work in the 40s to 80s to develop a statistical record of every City game. It sounds crazy saying it now but until Ray (and Andy Ward) published the first MCFC Complete Record in 1987 it was near impossible to find out line ups, attendances, scorers for City games. The only way you could do it was by researching the original newspapers or match programmes (something I started in mid 80s when I started to become obsessed with this myself and joined the Association of Football Statisticians). Those 3 men welcomed me (as a teenager when I first contacted Ray) in to their chats, correspondence etc. and John proof read my Manchester The Greatest City and all three contributed to all my works in ways that I will always be grateful for. Steve Kay (MCFC Stats site) was the first to see the potential of utilising material like this on City and putting it online and I know that Dennis and I both helped him (John had passed away, sadly). We were delighted to welcome another Blue into the murky world of stats! Steve was a really nice guy and I loved supporting his work and wanted it to become the most comprehensive site it could be.
Sadly now Steve and Dennis have both died, but I still keep in contact with Ray. These days there are several sites that have been created based on the material that appears in the Bluemoon history section or on Steve's old website with little - or worse, no - acknowledgement of where they have come from. Like many things on the internet, it's easy to pass it off however you choose, but I hope that all Blues will remember and recognise that this statistical history was gathered and presented by several dedicated Blues. I know some people have tried to 'sell' the historical stats to City. I offered them to City (for free) several years back, but for various reasons we couldn't do what we wanted to do, hence the reason I gave them to Ric for inclusion here. I hope everyone finds them useful. Only thing I ask in return is that anyone using these stats recognises the work of those that originally compiled them. Thanks
